Plex suddenly cannot stream to Chromecast

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621
Player Version#: Version 4.108.0

I’ve had the same setup for years now - the laptop has changed, but I’ve been using the same one for about a year without issue. I run the server on my laptop, log in, and cast to Chromecast normally from Edge, though I’ve tried Opera as well.

Suddenly a few weeks ago, whenever I’ve tried to stream, the app would freeze, or rather the spinner appears but doesn’t spin normally but in a weird stuttery way, and I get the following errors in the console: https://i.imgur.com/atnTXCW.png

bump?

This looks like the bundled web version. Does it do the same when using app.plex.tv which is newer

That just gives me a

‘app.plex.tv is unable to connect to “[server]” securely’

message. Which is weird, because the server is marked as secure when I open the settings.

You may just need to restart server. There may be some reason the security certificate needs to be refreshed. Chromecast requires secure connection as well.

Already tried that several times, unfortunately.

Something is off with your network or at least the server thinks there is. Showing its local address is 192.168.1.133 but it shows when trying to set things up it sees your WAN IP as 192.168.0.11 which is a local IP on another subnet which indicates you might have at least a doubleNAT.

This is a DNS rebinding check that failed

Nov 29, 2023 21:46:38.352 [2096] DEBUG - [EventSourceClient/pubsub/172.104.152.89:443] Network: 192-168-1-133.abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz012345.plex.direct failed to resolve to 192.168.1.133 but instead yielded (null)

It not being able to connect to plex.tv causing it to not get a new cert which is causing Chromecast to fail. The Roku likely still has the old expired cert still cached, or is connecting insecurely

You’re right, I do have a double NAT, or at least I did at the time I created this topic. Right around the same time, though, I googled around too, and found what I thought was the solution - I added my wireless modem to my cable router’s DMZ and the indicator on my server went from warning to green and now I have a

Fully accessible outside your network

You can access this server from signed-in Plex apps or in a browser at https://app.plex.tv/desktop.Disable Remote Access

message in my server settings. Unfortunately, that did nothing to fix my actual issue, which is probably why I forgot to mention it. Is there anything I can do to flush that cache, and can you explain the Roku mention?

Sorry was helping in multiple topics at the same time and mentioned the wrong thing. it was related to someone else’s issue.

If you don’t have a doubleNat anymore then probably be good to see new server logs

is the remote access page showing the correct public (external) an and private (local) IP?

I reset the old cert but the info on your account still shows server as last seen 5 months ago
