Server Version#: 1.18.6.2368
Player Version#: various from Samsung TV to other devices
On 2/12/2020
Out of nowhere when all was working fine for 12 months from a Samsung TV to an NAS WD 32 TB drive, the dreadful error appears:
“Unable To Switcher User. User doesn’t have access to any servers or shared content…”
All was fine 24 hours ago and 12 months prior, no changes made whatsoever to any device.
I am logged in to the same account on the WD Drive as with my plex.tv account. Basically I have verified both are using the same credentials.
On the WD / plex configure section…“Claim Server” shows up and cannot be claimed. Escalated to Level 2 at WD. They asked for a log and snap shot of the Claim Server screen and the Samsung Smart TV error message.
I might guess that there is a communication issues with the NAS drive and my plex.tv account as the NAS does not show up as an authorized device though all of my other devices appear just fine. I’ve even uninstalled / reinstalled the app on the Samsung TV and watched it appear and re-appear.
8 hours and getting nowhere. Any detailed advice would be appreciated while I wait for WD to get back to me.
Thanks
Anthony
Your account that you are signed in with anthonyg shows you don’t have any. or are we talking about some other account?
can you please take screenshot of this
I will check …the forum account is different than my Plex user account
Local Server account is “xxxxx”, plex.tv account is the same.
How are you accessing the server in your browser? What URL? Also which model WD are we talking about
browser URL to plex.tv: https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/settings/account . NAS doesn’t show as an authorized device
browser Local access: http://192.168.xxx.xxx:32400/web/index.html#!/settings/account
both login in fine under the same account xxxxxx
Local account cannot Claim Server, plex.tv doesn’t show NAS drive at all, all other
devices Yes.
WD PR4100
All have latest firmware
Plex firmware on WD is:
1.18.6.2368
So in the WD’s interface does it show that the server is running?
on your WD can you find the Plex Media Server folder on it? It should be around here /mnt/HD/HD_a2/plex_conf/Plex Media Server/
In it there should be a Preferences.xml
file
I worked with WD support level 2 today. We used Putty to access the WD drive. We followed this article to the note, alas, the BIN Plex software was installed on the Wd drive after we had removed it to start fresh. Keep in mind this issue began last eve.
Here is the article
https://support-en.wd.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6428/kw/reset%20plex%20database
Once we got that in place we were left with the plex.tv account not being able to see the NAS as an authorized device nor could we claim the server. The server software is running fine, no issues. I can add or delete Library folders, etc…all is fine from the local account. I hope that helps you and thanks for the almost real time volley to assist
OK but right now is the server installed and running on the WD ?
Yes.
For further verification if it helps any, I can access the entire Troubleshooting section to Clean Bundles, Download Logs, Download database…etc. If the server wasn’t running on the WD I don’t believe this section would be available. Again this is using my local account, not a remote account or WAN access, solely from the LAN. If you need further info please advise
Can you find the preferences.xml file on it?
Also, on the local account, the WD NAS doesn’t show as an Authorized Device however all other devices do show that ‘were’ able to access the NAS such as an Android device, Samsung TV, Windows Tablet, etc
OK let me see if I can find that preferences file
Actually if you can access the troubleshooting section can you please download the logs and attach them here
ok there is definitely some communication error but not sure what is causing it yet. Unfortunately it is pretty late here and I am going to have to wait to ask someone about it.
Can you please try to claim the server in your browser again and take a screenshot if any error message you get. (not your TV)
no success, the timeout wheels spins for about 2 seconds. Also of note, Plex keeps stating there’s an update. The update you see on the screen has already been applied
Your update channel is set to Unknown. set to to Public
“Unknown” is the only option available
I’ve done this Sign In process already.
Due to the vulnerability management scan I ran on this device (WD NAS 32TB), I have chose to block ports 32400 TCP and UDP 1900 from LAN to WAN and a few other ports that were declared as Open such as SMB and SSH. I’ve no need for WAN access. **This was done about 5 weeks ago however. The issue I reported here began 36 hours ago. if those changes had any effect 5 weeks ago, the Plex issue would have arisen at the point of change, 5 weeks ago I would believe.
