DSM: 7.1-42661 Update 3
Hi. I have an issue that I haven’t been able to fix after trying lots of solutions found online. My main issue currently is that I am unable to claim my Plex server. I “unclaimed” it (if that’s the word) from my account because I was experiencing some issues with Plex generally.
I have a Pi-Hole running on my network, which I removed yesterday, and updated my router DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 1.1.1.1 (Google, CloudFlare). I don’t see why this would be a problem for Plex but that’s the only event I can isolate that would have caused Plex to fail.
I also changed the username of my account but I’m not sure that should have caused issues.
After removing the pi-hole I had issues whereby my user (the owner) could play videos locally, but not remotely. Other users could play videos locally and remotely fine. I also had issues playing mkv files - it said the codec couldn’t be found or installed. MP4 videos played fine.
I tried to fix this with the suggested idea of deleting the codecs folder and letting Plex rebuild it, which it did, but it didn’t fix the issue.
For the right or wrong reasons I decided to remove the server from my account and thought that claiming it would fix things. However I am not able to claim the server - when I click claim, it appears to be trying for around a minute and then the Claim Server box is available again. No warnings/errors etc.
I have tried uninstalling Plex and reinstalling it but the same problems persist. I haven’t gone for the “nuclear” option of totally uninstalling it because I don’t want to lose the database - I have a huge number of files that have been tagged manually because they are private videos, and I don’t want to lose that.
So - can anyone please help with my primary issue, which is not being able to claim the Plex server?
Many thanks.
