The ability to control Sonos playback using a regular Plex app (as opposed to using the native Sonos app) is a premium feature. That means it does require having an active Plex Pass subscription on your Plex account.

I have an active Plex Pass subscription.
The plex-admin user can cast the sonos speakers, the home-user or managed user can’t?

emphasized text

Correct. The plex-admin user is the one with the subscription. The managed user doesn’t have a subscription.

I also wish that this was allowed. I would prefer not to use my admin user for playback.

I’d like to re-up this discussion, as I’m having the same issue. I have a Plex Pass subscription, and when logged in on my admin account I’m able to cast to my Sonos device. My wife is an invited home user, not a managed user, and the Sonos device does not show up in the casting menu.

I’ve verified that she’s on the same WiFi as the Sonos system. I’ve logged into Plex as her and re-linked the Sonos account, but still no Sonos icon appears in the casting list. If I log in to the admin account on her device, it casts just fine.

Thanks for any help anyone can give. I’ve searched the forums and found a couple of references to this exact issue, but can’t seem to resolve the issue with the instructions provided.

Your wife must also purchase a plex pass for her plex account to be able to cast to sonos.

your plex-pass entitles invited home users to listen to unlimited music (without the 1.5 minute limitation) and view photos without watermark.

however, they have no right to cast to a sonos devices.

This is a commercial point of plex. There is no problem with your wifi.

But actually it’s much easier to use the sonos app with the plex services. This works without any problems.

I hope I helped you.

It is not easier to use the Sonos app with the Plex service. The Sonos app has terrible browsing functionality and the same issue as stated above. You can not use a managed account to connect to it even in the Sonos app.
We don’t use the Admin account in Plex for anything other than administering Plex. It’s a failure that local managed users can’t access casting to Sonos. They have the ability to cast to other devices, just not the Sonos speaker.

It isn’t possible for managed users to cast to a Sonos speaker. They will not see the option. This is by design. A bad design, but by design nonetheless.
Its “explained” in the employee post right above yours.
