Plexamp casting to Sonos using managed users

Hello there,

I am putting up a feature request that has been mentioned many times over the years (cases in point: Plex-home users cannot cast to sonos, Problem with connection to Sonos with Android Plex app using managed user, Other admin can't play music on sonos system, Managed Users and Sonos, Casting to Sonos as a managed user, Managed Users Can't Cast to Sonos, etc.), but died because it has not been worked on for so long.

In short, what this feature requests asks for is for other Plex users and managed users within the same Plex Home, claimed by a user with a Plex Pass, to be able to cast to their Sonos audio system through the Plexamp app. At the current moment, it is possible to add Plex as a music service on the Sonos app but it has 2 major drawbacks:

  1. the Plex server must be accessible from outside the network, and
  2. the music played will be streamed remotely, which means if the library contains only lossless music, they will have to be transcoded on-the-fly just to play music locally.

What I, and a lot of the posters in the aforementioned forum posts, ask for is just for Plex to allow users (Plex users and managed users) that have been added to the same Plex Home to have access to the Sonos casting feature as well. My Grandma loves playing her Johnny Cash, and after decking our her room with Sonos gear for her media entertainment (mainly radio and old vinyl), she was thoroughly disappointed that she couldn’t stream it through the app. So for now, she’s using my account to stream music, but that shouldn’t be the case, isn’t the managed users feature there so as to avoid having one account shared by everyone? And what’s worse, now everyone thinks I’m in love with Johnny Cash when I’m clearly not D:

Back to all seriousness, I hope that through this post, this issue can be brought back to the surface and have the support team know that there are Plex users asking for this.

Thanks @arifer, I have been meaning to create a new post about this as well as my last one got closed.

I wholeheartedly second this request, and in addition to the logs posted in my previous post(s) about this I can provide more if necessary,

I believe this is actually a relatively simple bug to fix: Whenever the drop down for sinks to cast content to is opened, there is a auth-check on the account and it does not take into consideration correctly when an account is accessing a Home system where the owner is a subscriber.
Seems a pretty simple oversight that should be easy to rectify.

At the very least, invited users to a subscribed home should be able to cast to sonos as this is how the expected functionality.

I do however not see any reason why managed users should not be able to cast using the owners sonos integration as well.

I am also trying to get Plex integrated in the family but this is another bump on the road to using Plex as our main media server. As is I need to keep dublicate systems and cannot go all in.

I see no response from Plex on this feature request. Is that not customary to give some kind of indication that feature request is reviewed?
