Cannot find media server!

Dear Plex,

Just downloaded latest software version

Plex media player

And with the last one I have a problem, after installation and restart (mandatory) he does not find the server after installation.

what should I do? I previously had a plex account.
and now I use this one again, but gets tricky when the server is down,

Best regards

Richard

IS IT ME OR ISNT THERE EVEN a PLEX MEDIA SERVER MAP? (nor a plex media server.exe)

There’s certainly none showing in that screenshot of yours.
Do you get any error messages when you run the installer you downloaded from https://www.plex.tv/media-server-downloads/ ?

I don’t have Plex installed on Windows – from what I remember, there should be an own “top level” folder for the Plex Media Server (next to Plex and Plex Media Player).

No errors during download..
nor during install

after install there is NO PLex media server folder.
so its messed up,

So…

  • you downloaded the correct file
  • you’re triggering the installer
  • are you using the default install location or did you change any option during the install?
  • you mentioned there’s no error messages during installation – does the installer give you a positive confirmation that the install has completed? (checking if the installer might be blocked by some rogue security app or AV software that mistakes it for malicious software)

When you got the initial error message… are you clicking an old shortcut ?

yes both …installer says completed + launch
and yes original location.

i tried other location also…still NO plex media server map installed…the quicklocation is new after install

even windows defender did not block or delete a thing in history

Are you sure that you downloaded “Plex Media Server” and not just “Plex”?

euhm..yep

Please peruse this article https://support.plex.tv/articles/202967086-windows-errors-trying-to-upgrade-install-or-uninstall-plex-media-server/

The Directories of Cache and Installer are untouched,
i use ccleaner to clean my computer safely…

Hold on there is no installer directory in my windows map

also found this indeed [Windows] - Using the Microsoft Windows Troubleshooter FixIt for problems that block installing / removing Plex Media Server

I have found the

C:\Windows\Installer

directory it seemed to be invisible.

like

c:\users\NAME\appdata etc

So the installer directory is NOT the problem this time.

PROBLEM SOLVED!

1: Deleted PLEX app
2: Deleted PLEX server
3: Deleted PLEX Media Player

4: REBOOT!

5: enter regedit and search for Plex.tv and delete all remaining (except location where the downloaded install files are)

6: Type C:\Users\YOURNAME\Appdata in the directory browser
7: Click in C:\Users\YOURNAME\Appdata now on Local and deleted all PLEX.tv
8: Click in C:\Users\YOURNAME\Appdata now on Local Low and deleted all PLEX.tv
9: Click in C:\Users\YOURNAME\Appdata now on Roaming and deleted all PLEX.tv

Reboot and reinstall and voĂla the map PLEX Media

server is back.

That is a serious mistake.
Avoid that and similar softweare. It won’t improve your live.

Following this procedure might have helped PMS-SHUTDOWN.MSI Error / FIXED! - #2 by HighJavier

the .MSI tool did not find anything missing @OttoKerner
perhaps that .msi file could do the trick…but hey im there.

fck…sorry for my language but im back to 0

Huh? The .exe it is complaining about is right there.
Which kind of anti virus software are you using on that computer?

0 im only using windows defender

I’d check the RAM and the hard drive for defects.
A RAM test is built into the Safe mode of Windows (AFAIR) and (unless C: is an SSD,) you should also perform a “surface test” with CHKDSK.

BINGO!!!

Solution 100% confirmed

Cut the map: Plex media Server from Program Files map
Paste the map in Program Files (86)

PS : create a new quick link for the new location to your desktop
