Cannot find TheTVDB.com series in Plex

Hi,

I have a series that I can find on TheTVDB.com, but cannot find via Plex’s TheTVDB agent. I am running the latest version of PMS (Version 1.3.3.3148) and have no issues with other series.

The series in question is “Taboo (2017)”, and can be viewed at thetvdb.com/?tab=series&id=292157&lid=7.

Auto-match found a National Geographic series. Manual match for “Taboo” found three series, none of which was the right one (two are the right series, but in another language!). Searching for “Taboo (2017)” found the same three incorrect series, but in a different order. Searching for the TheTVDB.com ID of “292157” via Plex found nothing.

The files are in a folder called “Taboo (2017)” and are named similar to “Taboo (2017) - S01E01 - Episode 1 {WebDL-1080p}.mkv”. This is the same structure as all my other TV series which work fine.

Any thoughts?

Peter.

@peterjaclark
I believe Taboo (2017) is one of the series that doesn’t match correctly because of a suspected bug. More info here:

Try renaming your files and folders to just Taboo. It’s completely opposite of the usual advice to name exactly as the TVDB lists it, I know. Something like this might work:
TV Shows
… \ … Taboo
… \ … Season 01
… \ …\ Taboo (2017) - S01E01 - Episode 1 {WebDL-1080p}.mkv

You may have to plex dance the files first to get the desired results…

  • Move the files to someplace Plex can’t see them
  • Update the library
  • Empty Trash
  • Clean Bundles
  • Move the properly named (or improperly in this case) files back to where Plex can see them

Hope it works!

Shouldn’t it still work from a manual match?

Is it named and structure

Taboo (2017)/
Season 1/
Taboo (2017) - S01E01.mkv

While the braces {} shouldn’t be a concern, their behavior is unknown.

I would recommend removing everything after Episode 1 and making sure you have a season directory as well

This is not about automatic matching. This is about a series missing from the search results from a manual search.

I’m not challenging you. I am trying to understand. There is a research thread I opened about naming & matching.

The series Taboo is one of the highlighted series. The issue presents in the case when the user presents the name Taboo but gets Taboo (2017). Further examination shows Taboo (the 2003) series, Taboo (2001) and, Taboo (2017) all in the consideration list.

As soon as the year is indicated, all conflict goes away.

Another example is The Flash being misidentified as The Flash (2014) .

If I am understanding you correctly, you are sharing that you have found Taboo (2017) does not match and cannot be found. This is VERY interesting and needs to be worked through.

I would like to ask if you’re willing to help test? If so, would you “plex dance” the series, renaming it to Taboo (as typed) while away from Plex and before dropping back in?

(Please do keep a copy of your pristine named files)

When I manually search for “Taboo”/blank, “Taboo (2017)”/blank, “Taboo”/“2017” or “Taboo (2017)”/“2017” Plex fails to find the right series.

I have removed “Taboo (2017)” from the filestore, re-scanned the library, emptied the trash, cleaned the bundles, emptied the trash again, copied the files back under the name of “Taboo” instead of “Taboo (2017)” and re-scanned the library.

Plex picked up the series, downloaded the metadata for “Taboo (2017)” (i.e. exactly right for what I wanted, but probably wrong for what should happen) and everything looks good. Doing a manual search now presents “Taboo (2017)” as the first match.

Renamed the files back to “Taboo (2017) - S01E0…”, did a rescan and it found the renamed files right away.

Renamed the folder to “Taboo (2017)”, did a rescan and found everything right away.

Now when I do a manual search for “Taboo (2017)”/“2017” it comes up as the first item with a 100% match.

if you rename a file that Plex has identified properly, it understands there was a name change, but it’s still the same file, and doesn’t try to rematch.

Plex has identified your original name “Taboo” and is happy to accept the name changes to “Taboo (2017)” (even though we know that isn’t exactly the right way, but the wrong name works in this glitchy instance)

Chances are, if you moved the files out of view from Plex, refreshed the library, emptied trash, cleaned bundles and then moved the files back, it would mis-match again. This series is just one those that the right way to make it match is by naming it it the wrong way.

The best way to match is to select “Fix Incorrect Match” and then enter the TVDB ID into the search field. In your case, it’s 292157 (you can get it from the URL). The first time is not always successful, you may have to try several times before it matches. It should pull up the latest TVDB data thereafter. That’s how I got Taboo (2017) to match properly.

I tried the TheTVDB.com series ID multiple times, with no luck. It used to work.

This is what I did. First I unmatched the series, then I emptied trash and cleared bundles. Then I selected Match and entered series ID into the “Title” field and left the “Year” field empty. I had to search multiple times before the option came up. Sometimes the TVDB API is swamped and doesn’t respond.

As of now, TVDB and the Plex mirror seem to both be down for me so you might want to try later.

Has there been any change for you?

Overnight there was an outage which needed about 1 hour to repair

@ChuckPa - Was that to me, or to @weisheng?

In my case, nothing has changed since my last post.

Just in case it helps - or not! I have this in my library and have not changed anything from the way my filebot AMC script named it :

Plex TV Mount Point / Taboo (2017) / Season 1 / Taboo.2017.S01E01.Episode.1

etc.

It has matched correctly each week.

@peterjaclark It was a generate statement to both. That said, do you have any tools available to show what metadata tags (the Title and Name) fields are in the file(s). You shouldn’t be experiencing this problem at all for Taboo 2017. There is a known conflict with older series the devs are currently working on (when dates aren’t provided).

This output shows you PMS will find it… This is the naming I am using to deconflict the original series named Taboo and the new Taboo (2017) series.
Please take a screen shot of your TV agent settings (priority stacking order) and attach it.
