Plex will not match The Good Place

No matter what input I try, when trying to match “Good Place” or “The Good Place” in my TV library, the only search result I get is “The Good Place: The Podcast”.

All my other content scrapes fine and it worked in a previous library and the show exists on TheTVDB.

So I’m not sure if the breakdown is in Plex or TheTVDB but any help would be appreciated.

Perform “Match”/“Fix Match” at the top level of this show.
Click on “Search Options”
put 311711 into the field for the tv show title
clear out the “year” field,
Search

Wow. That is a nice trick I wish I’d known years ago. Still doesn’t explain why it wouldn’t find it, but it’s matched now at least.

apparently is due to ongoing TVDB api changes…

Using the ID is the only solution that currently works with the existing agent when a show will not match (even with the best file naming conventions)

I noticed after that this was not the only trouble show. Jim Gaffigan would only return The Pale Tourist version and Get Smart only the 1995 restart. Glad to know the workaround while this settles!

tbh, I am not sure the current TVDB scanner will get fixed as my guess is that development efforts are probably now all being focussed on the new TV scanner that is currently in Preview.

Although I will be very happy if proved wrong…

This “solution” works but i really think there is something wrong with the scanner. I added 2 shows (Street Outlaws and Wanda Vision) and for both i had to use the ID because the Plex scanner couldn’t find the show but both existed on thetvdb. How can this be troubleshooted further?

Thanks @blim5001
When browsing the forum i did find them too.
So i guess its on their radar.

Regarding WandaVision (one word - not two)

Created a dummy test set ( 7x 20)

Matched by itself without intervention.

I will try it again today and will let you know the result i got.

Thanks for testing it.

Strange. Plex will not match the series itself.

But it seems plex searches for the folder name instead of the file name? Why is that?
If i rename the folder it’s matched directly.

So my folder is named: Marvel’s WandaVision
And my file is named: WandaVision.S01E01.1080p.DSNP.WEB-DL.DDP5.1.Atmos.H.264-CMRG.mkv

It should match if you name the show exactly as the TVDB which is WandaVision, not Marvel's WandaVision

(at least mine did when named just WandaVision)

Although your file naming is not really following the Plex naming conventions.

this is mine:

WandaVision
  Season 01
    WandaVision - s01e01.mkv
    WandaVision - s01e02.mkv

I agree.
But why is it working if i only rename the folder name and leave the file names the same?

afaik, Plex has always made use of the folder name when matching TV Shows.

and your filenames do start with WandaVision.S01E01 the correct series name, season and episode numbers.

(Plex it can be quite forgiving of file names, until it’s not. Which is why I find it generally better to follow the naming guidelines to save pain further down the road… but that’s just my 2 cents)

Seems strange to me to use the folder name but hey it is what it is
