Just ripped a movie directly to one of my movie folders on my Synology NAS and Plex automatically scrapped it as i would expect. But it scrapped it before I coukd edit the movie name and get rid of the “_t00” at the end of the name.
After doing thr edit, now Plex will not rescrape it correctly at all. I have tried unmatching, fix match…nothing. Rescanned…nothing. I completely moved the file somewhere off the NAS, scanned and still would not remove it. I corrected the file name, moved it back, scanned and still nothing. Even tried deleting the file and it gave me an error.
Any idea what in the world is going on and how to fix this? Extremely annoying!!!
I see you tried to remove and re-add but think you missed some steps from the plex dance which should cleanly rescan and scrap the file.
To avoid the problem in the future, rip your DVD’s and Blu-rays to a “staging” folder Plex can’t see. Then rename and move them to your library folders. Placing “unfinished” or “incomplete” files (such as an ongoing ripping or downloading process) hardly ever turns out well.
I suppose that alternatively, you could make sure any “automatic scans” are disabled, so the server isn’t always on the lookout for new files.
100% agree on the automatic scans. I’ve found it’s much better to initiate the scans when I want but understand that’s not for everyone.
If the file persists despite doing the ENTIRE Plex Dance, then click the triple dot and Get Info on it. Look for the full path to the file that Plex thinks it is. Make sure that it is the same file you are Plex Dancing. Maybe it’s a temporary mini file left over from the ripping process, and not the full movie you were expecting.
Note: The important part of the plex dance we think you missed, is the Empty Trash part, after the scan has detected the missing file is missing. Empty trash removes all trace of the existence of the file from the database, so adding it back in it should scrape as normal, forgetting the bad scraping done in the past.
What was the error Plex gave when you tried to delete it? (I assume you used the Plex interface to delete it, as Synology shouldn’t error unless the file was in-use or something).
Thanks to all of you that responded.
I just moved the file to a drive that is not seen by Plex. Rescanned the movie library and the movie is still showing up! So doing the ENTIRE Plex dance cannot even be done. I even tried just emptying the trash and tried to do the “clean bundles” but that option does not show up. With the movie file still not seen by Plex since its on a different drive, if I go to Get Info and try to delete the file showing in Plex it gives me an error “There was a problem deleting this item”.
Cleaning bundles removes cached data bundles that could be reused after adding things back. The Clean bundles option is in the troubleshooting section of the server settings
if they are MP4 files it could be reading embedded metadata in the title field of file which many ripping software puts there. If using the “Plex Movie” agent for that library disable “prefer local metadata” in that library’s advanced settings
Doing the Cleaning Bundles and Optimizing Database finally did the trick.
