Cannot install Plex Media Server to NIVIDA Shield 4k 2019 NON-PRO version

Hi,

I bought a Shield TV NON-PRO version to act as Plex Server and player. Then, I soon realized the Plex Server is not available on shield TV 4k normal version. F.Y.I. there is no PRO stock at my local store.

Here are my questions.

Why PMS is not available for Shield TV 4k Non-PRO? (I’ve compared to PRO version. The only noticeable differences are 3G vs 2G RAM and 16GB vs 8GB storage. I believe other differences do not really matter).

Who makes the restriction? NVIDIA or Plex. I tried to install PMS Apk, and failed. I assume it is limited to certain devices by app developers? So the shield TV 4k is incompatible.

Is there a chance PMS will be available to Shield TV 4K in the future?

Is there a way to force install the APK without root my device?

If you want to run Plex Media Server on a Nvidia Shield, you have two options: 1) Buy a 2019 Pro model; 2) Buy a pre-2019 model.

Even as a Plex client, the Pro model is better. Search the forum for “Shield tube.” There are multiple threads with people having trouble running the Plex client app on the tube model.
