I cancelled the home invite. Removed access to my libraries and removed the account. I then sent a new Home invite. She accepted the invite and she shows up in my friends list and has access to the libraries, but status is still “Awaiting their response” in Home.
When she goes to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home she does not see the home invite like this?
To be clear there are three types of things that an account can be invited to. Accepting one does not auto accept another.
- Library Access
- Friendship
- Plex Home
She does not have any request waiting under her home. I did send a Home invite to my wife’s account (this is a different account) and she got the request and accepted it and it worked. So it is just an issue with this one account that I can tell.
We gave up and had her create a new plex account. The process went perfect with this account.
Unfortunately this issue is still not resolved on my end. When I (server owner) navigate to that page I can see my outgoing requests that are pending for family members. When family members click on the email to accept, no change happens. This screen still shows the request as pending for the server owner. These family members are not technically inclined and asking them to navigate through their account settings to debug on their own is too much compared to clicking the accept button via email that they have already done before and after this fix.
And to be clear - they had recieved the Plex home invitation email and approved it before raising this bug and after reading the bug has been resolved, the old invite was cancelled and a new one was sent. Creating new Plex accounts for these users is not something we want to do like the user above was able to do.
The bug was that page was not showing pending requests on either end before. Nothing has been changed about the general behavior. Are you telling me that they have no ability to go to https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/plex-home from whatever device they are using for email and accept there? Do they not actually live in your home with you?
I would need to see which email exactly they are clicking on if that is not working
Is the expected workflow to add an existing user to Plex home for them to navigate to that url and accept using the Plex interface? Maybe I am mistaken because I thought the email confirmation was all that is required (which is true for adding them to the Plex server or as a friend). Between a girlfriend who spends equal amounts of time at our homes and a friend I’m housing as a courtesy I do have occasional access to their devices at an inconvenience.
The page linked above being fixed resolves part of the bug I reported, but the bug report was intended to be larger in scope in regards to joining Plex home via email not working. If the intended workflow is to not align with the established email-based system that Plex servers and friends operate then I consider this to be resolved.
Thank you again for the help BigWheel. If you need more information about what the client is seeing through their email I will be able to get that later this week when I have access to the device.
afaik the accept button/link in the home invite email only takes one to that same page because it will ask to create a pin as well which it could not do if accepting immediately. but it is not going anywhere useful/intuitive at the moment it seem so something does seem wrong regardless. sorry for my misunderstanding of issue
That makes sense, and you didn’t misunderstand the issue - the bug that was resolved was a symptom listed in my report (and it was resolved in a very quick turnaround time). Thank you very much for you and your teams help with this BigWheel and I hope you have a great rest of your week.
