Cannot log in with my google account anymore

Hello,

The login with Google is not working. It stays stuck on the loading screen after authenticating on my google account.
Can you have a look to fix it?

Regards,

You removed Google Auth from your account on 2024-11-14 09:23:31 UTC

To re-enable, go here: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/account and look for linked accounts

Yes I removed it because it was not working, hoping that by relinking it, it will work anew.
But now I cannot even link my plex account to my Google account

Please try incognito mode on your browser, or even better another browser

Same result with incognito mode in chrome.
And with edge I got the following result:

So not working neither

It clearly says: “You need to reset your password”

Please go here: https://app.plex.tv/auth#?resetPassword

I reseted my password but still not able to link my account with Google

So after you did a reset of the password, you could not browse to above and login using NOT Google, but email and the new password?
And if successful login, you should be able to add Google Auth again

Yes I cannot login with Google (normal since my accounts are not linked)
I can login with my email and password
But I cannot link my account. The workflow to link my account with my Google account open the Google pop-up, I authenticate to Google, the pop-up closes and on plex I’m stuck with an infinite loading and my accounts are not linked

On the developer console we can see the following message:
Your client application uses libraries for user authentication or authorization that are deprecated. See the Migration Guide for more information.

I think the issue comes from this deprecated library

What you are seen here are warnings, but auth should continue to work

so…

The behavior you describe is often caused by something on your browser, computer, or network interfering. Some things to try:

  • Ensure that “javascript” is enabled in the browser
  • Clear your browser’s cache/cookies/LocalStorage
  • Temporarily disable browser extensions/addons/plugins
  • Use a Private/Incognito browser window
  • Use a different browser (Chrome, Firefox, etc.)
  • Use a different device (e.g. phone/tablet vs computer)
  • Test on a different network (e.g. 4G/LTE rather than WiFi)
  • Disable any VPN that may be active

In some cases, it could be a DNS issue. You could try switching to use a free service such as https://1.1.1.1/dns/, Quad9 (https://www.quad9.net/), Google Public DNS (Public DNS  |  Google for Developers), or OpenDNS (Setup Guide | OpenDNS) as opposed to an ISP’s DNS.

I found out the issue. Chrome (webkit) is now blocking third party cookies by default.
This is preventing the sign in with google on plex website.
By disabling the blocking, I can link my account / sign in with google.

But it’s not a real solution, just a workaround.
Your dev team will have to update the third party sign in to not rely on third party cookies

Cool, and thanks

I’ll inform our devs

Google is a 3rd-party. If you (1st) are signing into Plex (2nd) by using your Google (3rd) account, then this is exactly the situation.
It is very much intended – by you.
If you want to avoid that, use your plex user account/email and your Plex password for signing into Plex.

Sign-in buttons like Sign in with Google, Facebook Login, and Log in with Twitter are a definitive sign that your website is using a federated identity provider. Each federated identity provider will have its own implementation.

If you are using the deprecated Google Sign-In JavaScript platform library, you can find information on how to migrate to the newer Google Identity Services library for authentication and authorization.

Most sites using the newer Google Identity Services library have removed reliance on third-party cookies., as the library will migrate silently to using FedCM for compatibility. We recommend testing your site with the third party cookie phaseout testing flag enabled and, if needed, using the FedCM migration checklist to prepare
