I’ve tried logging in with my server on my Synology nas, I’ve tried logging into chrome in both normal and incognito. It just says there was an error logging in. Same with password reset. I can’t even get to the downloads page to potentially update the server on the Synology. I’m still able to see in the browser other plex accounts shared with me, but cannot use any clients to access them (since my server isn’t logged in).
I had a suspicion so I logged in from my phone when I was off my home network and logged in successfully. So now I’m suspicious my IP address has been blocked for whatever reason. Anyone had this problem before?
Plex Media Server version?
Available via Synology Package Manager.
Synology Model?
Synology Control Panel → Info Center → General
DSM version?
Synology Control Panel → Info Center → General
The status of your server has no impact on the ability to stream from servers shared with you. Your clients do need to be logged in to your Plex account (requiring communication with hosts at plex.tv).
From a PC on your home network, can you login to hosted Plex Web, https://app.plex.tv/desktop/, and see the servers shared with you?
Did you change your Plex password?
That places your server in an unclaimed state.
To reclaim it:
Quit Chrome (or whatever browser you are using)
Relaunch the browser and point an incognito/private window at the IP address of the NAS, http://server_ip_address:32400/web.
Do not use app.plex.tv, a host/domain name, Synology QuickConnct, the “open” button in Package Manager, etc.
The incognito window is to bypass any ad blockers, cookie cutters, etc that might get in the way.
Can you login, access server settings, and claim the server?
Plex Media Server must be able to communicate with hosts at plex.tv for the claim process to work. If it cannot, then claiming will fail.
If you are still unable to access the Plex server settings and claim the server, please do the following:
Thanks so much for your responses and help! I got a little bit further, but still hit a wall. More info and answers to your questions…
PMS version: 1.28.1.6104-6000
Synology Model: DS920+
DSM version: 6.2.3-25426 Update 2
Got it
No, not from a normal chrome window. I get:
“Plex is not reachable
We are unable to connect to plex.tv at this time. Please try again later.”
this refreshes automatically to try again and fails again.
Yes, I changed my plex password after the recent data breach. I thought it was working after that, but maybe not.
I was able to use an incognito and login directly to my NAS IP:32400/web, but when I click on my server it says:
“Not authorized
You do not have access to this server”
How do I access server settings and claim the server? Maybe this is the root problem… From reading online there should be a yellow exclamation on my server if it’s unclaimed, but it’s not showing that.
Also, now that I used your trick to use an incognito browser and login directly to my NAS I can access this forum. If I try to do it in a normal browser there’s a certificate error, if I bypass the cert error with “thisisunsafe” I get:
Looking in the server logs it seems like I may have a bad SSL cert:
Dec 13, 2022 14:52:06.873 [0x7f592c7e8b00] WARN - [HttpClient/HCl#254e] HTTP error requesting GET https://plex.tv/api/v2/server/users/services?auth_token=xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx (60, SSL peer certificate or SSH remote key was not OK) (SSL: no alternative certificate subject name matches target host name ‘plex.tv’)
I have the zip of the logs, but it’s pretty big. Does the above help or do you need all of them. It looks like it scrubs out the sensitive info from the logs at least.
The log file should not be very large, maybe 50 MB. It is just text files. Please attach to the thread. It may have your e-mail address in Plex Media Server.log. You can PM it to me if desired. Click on my username, then Message.
Let’s try something simple first.
Shutdown the Synology.
Shutdown your PC.
Power cycle your Internet router and any switches or other networking equipment.
Power on the Synology and your PC.
Using an incognito window, can you claim the Plex server using NASIP:32400/web?
If not:
What error message, if any, is displayed?
Go to https://www.plex.tv/claim/.
Does it generate a claim token?
Do not need to know the token, just if one is generated.
Are you comfortable with the Linux CLI?
Logging in to the Synology via SSH, downloading and running a shell script.
If not, no biggie. There are other ways.
Down the rabbit hole I go…
So because I had that SSL error I went out on a limb and flushed my DNS. That fixed my login issues to plex and now I can login without going to an incognito chrome window. It also fixed my xbox game pass issue I’ve had for a month (probably the same time when plex broke), but only for this PC. I also restarted my synology and it completely fixed the plex server issue.
I was also able to successfully authenticate from the xbox client now. Problem solved. While restarting the synology/networking may have helped it seems the root of the problem was corrupt DNS.
Hello All - I’m in a similar boat as the OP, but I simply cannot login from anywhere - synology, plex.tv, from computer, from phone, using wifi, using VPN, using 5G, nothing works. It seems either my account has been hacked or accidentally deleted. And of course there is absolutely no way to contact Plex to get this sorted. Does anyone have the ability to help me regain access / unlock / undelete my account? Note that my account is under a different email address. I had to create a new account with a separate email address in order to even post to this forum. Any help is greatly appreciated!!!
If you cannot login to your account at plex.tv, your issue is different than the OP’s.
If you e-mail or password were changed, you should have received an automated notice from plex.tv with instructions on reverting the change.
You can try changing your password. Go to https://www.plex.tv/, choose Sign In, click on “Forgot,” and enter your e-mail address.
If you believe your account has been hacked, contact Plex Billing. Scroll to the bottom of this web page and click on Billing Questions. They can help verify your account and restore access.
