Hello

i have a synology ds218+ nas with expanded ram going to samsung tv.

I no longer cannot resume or fast forward films. They have to play from the start otherwise the app crashes and the tv re starts.

i am on the latest plex server update. Can anyone help me fix this

thanks

Jim

yeah, had those issues too transcoding vs direct play helps

Same issue running from PC to Samsung TV, I cannot skip forwards or backwards and resume playback also doesn’t work.

Only option is to restart from beginning which is very annoying.

could you please elaborate- you mean switch to direct play. Its just that does not always work as my Tb is only a small 24 inch one so i do not think it has the power sometimes to direct play.

thanks

Jim

Its something we have to live with ,if we use orca client… Some movies are working better with transcoding vs direct play… Nothing we can do about it

I’ve had this same issue recently. Using transcode worked but the video quality was shocking and volume low.
I downgraded Plex server from 1.20 to 1.18 and this and other problems including taking ages to connect on startup just vanished.
Try going back to an older version server.

Does this happen for ALL media files?

In the “bad old days” it was common to not be able to seek in damaged files.

Today it still happens occasionally if a file is incomplete, doesn’t have keyframes, if the audio and video aren’t muxed together properly, or if the device doesn’t really understand the container. Or if the encoded video and audio are too complex for the decoder.

If transcoding helps, that means Plex is building new streams, remuxing the audio and video, and building a new container. That implies the original file is a problem for the playback device, but doesn’t tell us why.

What are these files? Can you share the output from the Plex XML or from MediaInfo?
