I’m trying to download a movie to my Android device. The audio track for this movie uses the TrueHD codec, which means it has to be transcoded. However, the download keeps failing and the following errors appear in the log:
[Transcoder] [truehd_eae @ 058e2e00] EAE timeout! EAE not running, or wrong folder? Could not read '\\?\C:\Users\Michael\AppData\Local\Plex Media Server\Cache\Transcode\Sessions\EasyAudioEncoder\Convert to WAV (to 8ch or less)\583c1e6d42fc6269-com-plexapp-android_12276-0-311.wav'
[Transcoder] [truehd_eae @ 058e2e00] error reading output
[Transcoder] Error while decoding stream #0:1: I/O error
Note that I’ve checked the box in the Settings to use the new Downloads feature.
Streaming doesn’t completely fail, but instead the audio skips every few seconds or so. Same error logs.
I’ve seen a number of threads on this issue, but most relate to Linux and propose fixes (changing permissions, increasing inotify values) that do not apply to Windows.
I’ve been getting this for a couple of weeks now on various Android devices where EAC3 is needing (or required by Plex, because Kodi has no bother playing the exact same file on the exact same device…) to be reencoded.
“Solution” is to go into your server “settings > Library” and untick “Scan my library automatically”. You will need to reboot (or stop and start) your server for this to take effect. Now your EAC3 file will play (or TrueHD in your case, same thing happening).
Which of course is NOT a solution as now my new shows don’t show up.
Tried turning it off and back on again and now with “Scan my library automatically” ticked again it still doesn’t playback any files with EAC3 audio and now, IT DOESN’T UPDATE MY LIBRARY AUTOMATICALLY.
There has been talk of “exoplayer” on Android being at fault, but as you can see from the above, it’s clearly something a server or player update has introduced.
And why exactly telling Plex not to “scan my library automatically” fixes this???!!? Bizarre.
Have you tried checking the “Scan my library automatically” box, restart your server, then uncheck the box again and restart your server. Can’t hurt to try it?
This seemingly simple unrelated “fix” worked for me and is replicable every time. You need to restart the server for it to take effect though.
My server is on Synology (still on DSM 6, cannot be bothered with the hassle of 7 for now).
