my Plex is sticking on Version 1.17.0.1709.
Update can be downloaded, but then the update process will not end. And even a day after, everything is again on Version 1.17.0.1709 with the message “Updates herunterladen”
Once you’ve verified this, download and install the latest version of Plex Server for Windows manually. Download links are below. 64 bit version is recommended.
There is no LG TV connected to your account. So I assume that the Plex app on your TV is either not signed into a plex account at all, or it is signed into a different account than your server.
Do I need this Plex App on the TV?
Before - with the older version - I had a Plex Media Server entry under external storage on the TV. Which was easy without any stress - and I don’t need anything more.
In fact, I find it a bit strange having to register just for downloading the app onto the TV…
Then you were using the DLNA server portion of Plex. It is probably disabled by default in the new server versions. You can try and re-enable it in the settings under DLNA.
(But keep in mind that doing so will make any access restrictions for local managed users [kids] rather pointless.)
The genuine Plex app doesn’t require you to register. It only requires you to connect the TV app to the same plex account that your server is using. This is done so the TV app can easily find your server (even if they are both not within the same local network), and to apply access restrictions (if you’d have kids who you’d rather don’t want to access certain sections of your library.)
You already have a plex account, so doing that is easy.
If you for some reason stumbled upon a 3rd-party app that allows accessing a Plex server, I cannot tell you what these require.
It might also depend on the age of the TV, whether a genuine Plex app is actually available for that model.
