Cannot Watch Media Locally

Server Version#: 1.28.2.6151
Player Version#: 9.8.2.35221

So I just setup plex’s server stuff on my win 11 machine and right away I cannot watch media locally. I also have issues remotely but that’s a topic and headache for another day. For what it’s worth I did also try the same on a linux VM (Debian) with the same issue occurring.

When I try to load a movie or show on my Android device eventually something loads but it looks like possibly a transcode error. Screen cap attached if it uploaded correctly. I’ve tried tweaking the transcode settings incase that is the cause but I’ve seen no change no matter what I change. On the host computer the Video just loads. I can get to plex.tv just fine.

I did set a local ip range that is allowed without auth but saw no change. I did also set a rule on the host machine to allow incoming and outgoing traffic on port 32400. I did try checking the plex logs but didn’t really see anything that looked overly error like.

So now I’m here. What log file would be useful in troubleshooting this if nothing jumps out from the issue description.

I did just also get this when tying to access a show in the web app (http://127.0.0.1:32400/web).

Do you have the standard codecs installed? If you post the server logs we might be able to see something.

PlexServerLog.txt (250.3 KB)

Everything should be standard though I included a screen cap of my transcode settings just in case. Also included a snippet of the server logs from this morning when I tried loading a show once more. Public IP has been redacted.

Do you have Malwarebytes installed or another anti-virus that could be interfering with things?

If you do, you might want to take a look at this

Currently just the windows antivirus thats packed in with windows. I’ll take a look at it and see if it’s messing around with things.

I did have this same issue when running plex on luinx as well as a side note.

Negative on that ghost rider. I added an exception to the windows antivirus for both the server files folder and my media folder with no change.

For fun I did also try starting the plex sever as admin and nadda.

Lets start with making sure that the media is good, can you open and play the file in Windows Media Player?

Yep loads just fine in win media player.

Well turns out the media is the issue. Apparently Microsoft does something to the mp4 files you can download off the movies app so gotta figure that out then I’m sure all will be well. Thank you all for the suggestions.
