So I recently got a Terramaster F4-212 to move my plex server off of my gaming PC and put it on a NAS. With ease I was able to set up the NAS, move all of my media over and watch movies locally on my network. However, the moment that I try to watch something outside my network I get an error: “An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again.” I’ve done quite a bit of troubleshooting and here’s what I’ve gone through so far. Keep in mind that I have had remote access working just fine previously while the plex server was on my gaming PC, but now that it’s on my NAS it’s not.
Router:
- I have checked to make sure my port forwards are working and they are accessible from the web
- I have made sure UPnP is enabled
Plex Server:
- Have tried a fresh install
- Settings → Remote Access does say “Fully accessible outside of your network”
- I have tried messing with the manual port forward here but I haven’t had to mess with this on my Gaming PC’s plex server
Clients:
I’ve primarily been testing with my phone since it’s what I have I can easily get outside of my network with but this is what happens there
- Android app can view all my movies and everything just fine. The moment I launch a movie to watch, that’s when I get the error.
- However, if I were to log into the web version using my public IP and port, the movie fires up just fine.
- I have tried setting my android app to allow insecure connections with no success
- I have tried adding manual servers with my local and public IPs with no success

According to the log it looks like it’s because the client has an unknown decoder? Any help/pointers would be greatly appreciated.
