Cant access local media

Very bad that when there’s an outage on the plex systems. I cannot access my local media.

Thats really really poor.

You should still be able to access your server. All Plex clients should cache your credentials and your server’s location. If it’s not working, that could be a sign that your devices were never connecting locally to begin with or you have some other network issue going on. My Roku and Android devices are still working through this outage.

It’s absolutely ridiculous for a paid for product (at least, I paid for it).

Give us the EXACT instructions Plex, on how to ensure we can access our OWN CONTENT on our OWN NETWORK when your crappy system throws a regular fit like this.

Pure garbage, just like the DVR service.

Well, lets have the EXACT instructions to make this happen. I’ve already got my network supposedly bypassed from the AUTH service, but still “Media not found. The media you’re trying to access doesn’t seem to exist.”

It’s JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Plex at it’s finest, JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

Back to good old reliable Kodi to play my own content tonight.

edit: slamming the refresh button makes it come up, but it’s hit and miss - have my network supposedly set ok:

List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth
192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0

But still, hit and miss.

Plex - USELESS.

They work if you were already in them. If you rebooted your server to try to fix the issue, the connectivity is never restored.

I put this on Plex for creating a system for cord cutters that now tightly integrates itself back to a mother ship. Is plex turning into comcast?

I’ve not got a network issue. How do i set it up to cache locally ?

I connect locally. Bypassing auth is still causing data to screw up.
The auth outage is impacting local media viewing too.

Best solution, use something other than plex in the meantime if locally viewin…

I wasnt already in them. I rebooted just in case it was my server.

That doesn’t answer why i cant access MY OWN media thats stored on my local network…

There is nothing to do. It should be automatic.

Not sure what you’ve done, but your attempt to bypass Plex.tv might be affecting your ability to access your local server.

That literally means the files are not where PMS is expecting. Can you provide me your PMS logs and the time when this error occurred? This should not be something affected by the outage.

If this is what you meant above by bypassing Plex.tv, no that’s not what this does.

I haven’t tried rebooting my server but I can’t imagine why that would affect anything. As long as the IP for your server doesn’t change, your clients should still be able to find it.

I’m a hairs breadth (for want of a better phrase) from being totally done with the travesty that is Plex.

Give us the answers then? How do we MAKE SURE we can access our own content when this nonsense happens?

I’ve made a living from IT for a great many number of years and I’ve never come across something so badly managed as Plex, and I can assure you that is saying something!

I’ve got my local server up now, by deleting the IP list in Network settings, saving and then reapplying them again - I tell you, it’s a nonsense.

I can’t be bothered faffing about with logs - get your overlords to sort out their pisspoor software!

edit: and WHY ON EARTH would my “attempt to bypass Plex.tv” affect my ability to access my local service?!?

Have you any technical knowledge regarding what we are talking about here?

You say a lot, but explain nothing…

I can only tell you my experience. When Plex first started there was not this level of integration with their web auth. Why not turn that back on as an option if we want. I do not ever want the clients in my house using the plex auth servers. I don’t want the traffic ever leaving my network. You have made that nearly impossible.

But that’s just the problem - THEY CAN’T!

Are you oblivious to the great many users who are experiencing the same thing?

Have you checked out the Reddit group?!?

Man alive, this is a farce.

Exactly.

Another thing with the local access “working” - my kids, managed users, cant access anything.

They click their name - it brings up MY home page, with all MY programmes to resume.

Cheers Plex, lots of things I’d rather they didn’t see there.

And that’s if it doesn’t pop up the “media not found” screen…

Again, it’s hit and miss, sometimes it DOES bring up their own screen.

USELESS.

I restarted the entire network - and when bringing things back from cold, every device is now able to connect to the local server. No one is signed in, of course, but they know where the local sever is.

Server/Settings/Network: Preferred
All Local Clients: Fallback to insecure on local network only.

The only hitch was the FireTV.
I had to clear it’s cache - it got confused, but now it’s working fine.

Plexweb - is deceased as are ‘The Players’ and they have been.
Nothing much ever changes there, but the devices are fine.

Have to agree 1,000,000%. I just reran my Linux OS the night before last and just got around to adding PLEX and adding my libraries and I haven’t even gotten 25% done and scanned when this mess happened. To be EXTREMELY blunt there is no justifiable reason not to be able to continue to use Plex Media Player and not get the below.

" Media not found.

The media you’re trying to access doesn’t seem to exist."

Keep in mind that Plex is a server/client setup. If you’ve claimed your server, there is security in place to prevent unauthorized access to the server. Yes, some of this has become a bit more strict over the years to close up holes that have been found.

If you truly want to bypass all of Plex’s authentication services, don’t claim your server.

If you have claimed your server, keep in mind that PMS will still try to create a secured connection with all your clients, even if authentication has been bypassed. In this scenario, make sure the clients have been set to allow insecure connection on the local network.

Friday night with no access to our own media and this is what we get.

Hope prospective buyers happen to look in, this is as good as it gets folks!

Back to Kodi everyone for local content, with the minor hassle of remembering where you are in a particular programme - a minor inconvenience, but a tried and trusted method of watching your own stuff right back to XBMC.

Never mind, Plex will be back with some new money making feature no one needs or wants instead of fixing the basics!

Yeah, I am really pissed off also in relation to this service plex is delivering to users, and for the no possibility of making local authentication as a normal server/client software in the market, they just want all authentication stuff to go through their network, to be honest I do not want excuses on why that was done, the conclusion is customer being affected, and that is just horseshit.

Plex team is there any chance you change your mind, and start developing usefull stuff that is basic to be able to watch our media in a good way?

Kind regards
