Cant acess plex server from RasPlex when no internet access

Hello everyone.

I have a big problem with my Plex server and my RasPlex clients.

If my internet is down, i cant access the plex server from any RasPlex client but no problem from pc or android apps.

Is there a way to make the plex server be access able when the internet is down, i assume its because of the “Home” function. in the server.

No one with a solution?

This may need moving to the Rasplex forum but first lets confirm what settings you have for the following :

  • Network Settings on the server: GDM Enabled
  • Network Settings on the Server (Advanced) : Is List of Networks that are allowed without Auth blank?
  • Are you using Managed Users and Plex Home ?

Yeah i know its suposed to be in RasPlex forum but no answer so i tried here, and now there are a bit of action ):

  • GDM is Enabled.
  • “Network that are allowed without Auth” is Blank = YES (Do i need to fill in somthing here?)
  • YES iam using managed users and plex home

No it is fine. blank is good.

Well Plex Home needs the internet access - because managed users are authenticated with plex.tv
Apps are supposed to cache the last user credentials and use that if internet goes down but if you need to switch users then internet access is mandatory

It does on Android and PC apps, but not on RasPlex

Moving this to the Rasplex forum

It is because you are using Plex Home. Use of this requires access to plex.tv to validate you are a PlexPass subscriber as the functionaility is restricted to PlexPass users. So, if you have no internet it can’t validate.

I believe that was understood and the point here relates to cached credentials as it was stated by the Plex Team on a number of occasions that the last credentials used are supposed to be cached by the clients and the need for plex.tv would only be necessary if a different home user is to be used.

May be all this needs is confirmation that RAsPlex does not cache credentials for the last signed in user.

With the users reaction to dependency on plex.tv availability it was stated many times by elan and others that clients are supposed to cache the credentials to allow for internet connection to plex.tv going down.

Its correct that it was ment to cache the credentials for use when no internet.

Ive have this problem on:

RPi1 - version 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 (maybe earlier to)
RPi2 - version 5.0, 6.0 and 7.0 (maybe earlier to)

Like i said before, this is only a problem on RasPlex because i have no problem on my PC or Android app.

If i leave “Home” then it works without problem, but i want to use the Home feature.

Is there a work around to make the RasPlex store the credentials to use when no internet.

RasPlex should cache credentials the same way PHT does.

Please enable debug logging in Preference and test again, the logs should tell us what is going on.
