So I've been using Plex.com inside Chrome for a few months to stream from my server to my laptop and several other computers but I don't keep my server at my house.
I installed Rasplex but I didn't ever get a chance to login to my account. Now Rasplex just doesn't see any media.
1- Use plex.tv to track your server's IP and connect you. You must be logged in your plex account on both the server and the rasplex client which can be done during initial setup or going to the preferences menu.
2- Have a static ip on your server w/32400 open on the firewall, you also need to add the remote IP to the "allowed IPs without authentication. You can then point your rasplex client via "manually specify the server IP" under the preferences menu also.
98% of the time people should use option 1, option 2 is used under very specific designs for more advanced users.
Hi new to plex and have justed moved away from linuxmce. I have purchased the android and ipad app and I have a question on the back of this question. What happens if plex.com is down or offline. Will ras plex still connect to your local server or do you have to use option 2.

Option 2 if you’re lucky. But you’ll need to make the connections unsecure. Plex.tv does all the authenticating now and the SSL certificates.
