I’ve realized that the email address I have listed for my Plex account is actually incorrect. There is a spelling mistake in it and I never noticed.
It was never verified, but I’ve had this account for many years.
I want to correct my account’s email address (so emails actually reach me), but when I click the “Update email address” link and then type in the new email address (and my current password) it fails and throws “An unknown error occurred.”
How do I fix my email address? I can’t verify the email address since I don’t actually have that email address.
This isn’t the same as other topics listed in the FAQ (email address in use), so I’m not sure what to do.
Edit: I am now (4 days later) able to change the email address, and it sent me a verification. Whatever the issue was, it has been resolved.
Having same problem. Was going to wait a few days and try again in case it was temporarily locked down by the recent breach or flood of password resets.
Received an email from Plex that their system has been compromised. username, password and email are a few pieces of information that were probably leaked.
I wanted to change my email as an extra precautionary measure yet I experience the same error message other Plex members experienced as well.
Giving my users new emails & it seems to only happen on accounts that used Google as a sign in method. Unlinking the Google account from the Plex settings doesn’t fix it.
My account is not Google related - but I have had hiccups with services that used the “use my Google” or “use my Facebook” option since you have to unlink at that service and different sites that use that function handle it differently. Usually it works to unlink at the ID service (Google or Facebook, etc), then run through a password reset at the site you want to reset password or change email using the email that was linked to that ID service so it now acts like a local account instead (hit “forgot password” typically), and then you can change the email address for the account.

It let me change it without an error but an hour later and no email from Plex to the new email address has come through (for verification for example) nor updated on the forums yet. I’ll give it a bit and see if it’s just delays from the other ID\Pass changes.
EDIT: my original email did get a notice just a few minutes after the change to notify me that my address had been changed - just nothing to the new email. Plex might not play well with relay services (like SimpleLogin, AnonAddy, @duck.com, etc) or custom domains or custom domains used with relay services.
Edit2: Two emails came in within minutes of each other the next day for the verification (I assume from when I originally changed it and then later hit “verify” button manually as well).
