On my PC I am looking at one of my Plex Libraries. The Library is of the type (Home Movie). I use this library to display my Beatles music videos.
Here is an example of my problem:
My music video is “Love Me Do” which was released in 1962. Below the thumbnail for this video PLEX shows the title and below that it shows the date 2015 which is incorrect. I want it to show 1962. I tried editing the “Originally Available” field to 1962-01-01 but this does not change the incorrect 2015.
In the past there was a field I could change that would change that displayed date but it seems to be gone now. What is going on? How do I get PLEX to show the correct year?
I have had to change a few years myself. I had to change the year and date to what I wanted then by clicking the Lock Icon to the left. it will then turn orange. then click the orange Lock icon again is supposed to lock that date in that you choose to add. hope this helps.
I allready tried that. When you edit the info there used to be two fields that had the year. One was Originally Available which is formatted yyyy-mm-dd. The other field was just Year formated yyyy (if I remember correctly) but that filed is now gone.
The Originally Available field doesn’t seem to affect the displayed year at all and toggling the lock doesn’t help. But I thank you for the suggestion.
Could you check now and try to change a year by changing the “Originally Available” field? Or do you still have the Year field that I am missing?
Note the inccorrect “2013” being displayed above. That is likely the year that I added that clip. I changed they year on most of my clips to reflect the release date of the song but I neglected to change a few and now after several updates to Plex I seem to have lost the ability to change this. That’s just crazy so I hope I am wrong and overlooking something.
Here is a screen grab of the edit page. You can see the Originally Available field which has the year that I want displayed. Scrolling down the page just shows two larger fields for notes, no Year field. I’ve looked.
OK found this thread which seems to indicate the YEAR field was removed but a fix is coming. I have my doubts. PLEX seems to be focusing on users who just watch mainstream movies and I’m not sure they care about those of us who collect obscure moves or who have our own ideas about what date to use.
This is really thoughtless on the part of PLEX. Stop removing features please.
I’m having the same problem changing years on my home movies, too. So glad I found someone else with the same issue. My work around has been to edit the metadata in the mp4 file & update library. I think I have the agents set properly to look at local metadata first. However, this won’t work for .mkv files. I found a link on how to edit that metadata in mkv files, (really, appears to add an .xml file upon remuxing?), but couldn’t get it to work. I would love that Plex field back, too. Thanks a bunch for posting.
Yes, have the same problem. CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON is listed as 1972 and should be 1954. It also creates problems when sorting films by decade. I hope they fix this. I can find no way to change this in the meta data. Please advise.
I’m having the same issue. Any ideas how to ensure the correct year is used ? I have also added the year into the file name - Home movie (2010).mp4 - but Plexivity seems to pick up the files created date for the year.
had similar problem, only way to fix was type out full release date, year alone wouldn’t let me save, had to type out year month day with dash between them, like year-mm-dd for example 1980-10-31
only then it would let me save
