Can't claim server or find metadata - Ubuntu 16.04.5 LTS, server 1.13.7.5369

Changed virgin router to the new v3 unit about a week ago (no idea if this is relevant, but added just in case).
now plex server can’t acquire metadata - searches just return nothing.

I followed the instructions to remove plex altogether, and reinstalled it (command line on Ubuntu headless 16.04.5 LTS), I’m a plex pass holder, hence the server version.

Now, I can get to the server web interface, I’ve been able to add media libraries, but scanning them (even individual files) returns no results.
Claiming the server just fails with no error message.
I’ve downloaded the latest version, but the web interface claims there is a newer version!

The media library sits in my home folder on the server, but just to be certain that wasn’t an issue I chmod -r 777 on the media library to make sure the plex user has access.

Still no joy. I’m clearly doing something wrong. Can anyone give me pointers? I’ve attached server logs just in case.

Quick side note - the TMDB agent seems to be disabled, which is probably something to do with it - is this related to an unclaimed server?

greetings. did the DNS lookup change over as well? Perhaps a clean virgin install of PMS and a new library just to see if it can scrape metadata? Good luck & lemme know.

good idea! I’ve just ssh’d into the box - I can ping local resources (server name, IP address), but external ones don’t resolve.

Now I’ll have to have a dig around to see what’s changed and what I can do about it! Once I’ve solved the resolution issue, then I can reinstall PMS and try again.

I added both Google DNS servers to /etc/resolv.conf and then deleted and reinstalled the plex server - and behold! It claimed itself and is finding metadata right now across my whole library.

Now to find out why my virgin router is withholding DNS info from my plex box - every other bit of kit is fine.
