I have recently switched from a very old Cisco Router to a ASUS RT-AX88U.
Any new films being uploaded and added to the library are not matching any metadata. No director, actors, every field blank except the title it has taken from the file names and a standard release date of ‘1900-01-01’.
I do not need remote access, just local and I’m sure it will be a very easy fix however I don’t really know what I’m doing. My synology NAS box is working fine and Cloud Station updating new files.
In response to your second message, I am unable to access those settings now, since updating plex as you suggested earlier, the plex interface has changed and when I click settings, I don’t get an option for Server and my libraries are no longer present on the left.
When I try to delete the preferences.xml I can only get as far as:
Open File Station and navigate to: Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server There is no Plex folder on my file station.
You have completely lost me with “the server selector is on the mid left of the page, > server > is now just a check that you have selected the correct server. The server tab no longer exists.” I can’t see anything that says server mid left on the page, I’ve scanned the page a few times and can’t see anything that says server.
uPnp is enabled.
When I click on a link within Q4 that says ‘ports used by plex’ it takes me to a Plex login page and will not accept my email and password. Even though I have checked several times that these are the correct details.
After following the on screen prompts, I get a message:
Comparing entered passwords
Comparing entered passwords ok
Getting PMS Server Identifier
Getting PMS Server Identifier ok
Getting User Token from plex.tv
******** ERROR ********
We failed to authenticate towards plex.tv
Please check username and password, as well as network access
I have check the username and password that are all correct and the network access is working.
So I have been through everything again today and this time, once deleting the preferences and re-starting it did the whole setup again. Said it found the server, gave a list of my folders within in; film, tv, then when I’d been through the setup I am greeted with the same screen saying I need to claim the library.
The only difference this time, on the left, the servers section, when I click it, there are two servers, both with identical names, one says unavailable the other says nearby.
I have followed these instruction. Resetting the ASUS router to factory defaults and resetting the NAS network settings.
Nothing has changed except one of my computers can no longer connect to a shared drive I have set up.
Also the router now has the NAS device showing twice with the same IP on the Asus Router App on my phone. But on the connected device list on the Asus web app on my Windows PC it shows the NAS saying 2 clients are connecting through this device, but it has the wrong IP address.
When the ISP’s device is set to modem rather than router it is not possible to change any settings whatsoever. The only option is to put it in router mode.
I have removed the ASUS router completely and run the Superhub in router mode. Everything works fine, all my devices connect to shared drives. I am able to connect to Plex and also update Metadata again.
I have also put the ISP device back to modem mode and connected my old router, everything works fine.
So it is definitely the new router that is causing issues as I suspected from the beginning.
I have switched back to the old router for now, but have two servers showing in Plex, both with the same name, one working and showing as ‘nearby’ with a green lock, the second showing unavailable with a red explanation mark. Am I safe to remove this second one?
Thanks, and thank you for all the patience through this.
Now I just need to work out what is stopping things working when the new router is connected. There is obviously some setting that needs changing somewhere.
