Recently when adding movies to my server the metadata does not load, after several days of troubleshooting I have given up. I have renamed my whole library, reinstalled plex several times, cleared my cache, tried different combinations of agents, and disabled IPv6 on the server and my network connection. The last time I reinstalled plex and tried to add the library only 38 movies out of over 150 got the correct metadata and posters. On another not when I add my TV show library I have no issues and everything loads correctly. I have also tried putting files in one by one with no success. I have attached some logs, but I am not sure if they are the correct ones as I am still new to plex in general. On a side note I am using a Express VPN in order to bipass the lanlords modem and allow port forwarding.
You’re using at least some MP4 files. If there are embedded Title Fields within containing strange/bogus info, that’ll bork things quite effectively as Plex will prefer embedded Title Fields in MP4/M4V files over pristine file names - unless:
Drag and Drop Local Media Assets to the bottom of the Active Agents under ALL tabs in TV Shows and Movies:
Refresh Metadata and see what happens. If nothing happens Plex Dance and see what happens:
All Steps, in Order - or it won’t work.
If nothing good happens your landlord hack may have done something unexpected. We’ll need advanced help in that case.
When providing logs - provide all of them - NOT Verbose - and wait for a request for same so you can PM the logs to the ‘Expert’ in case you don’t want those exposed publicly:
Thanks for getting back to me, so I moved the agents like you said to, but that did not help and after doing the plex dance twice (one with a full computer restart and cache clearing) I was still having the same issue. Would a VPN actually affect the metadata? Anything else i should try?
Well… yea… if Plex can’t see TVDB/TMDB/IMDB (on the other side of the Landlard Hack) - that would be a huge roadblock.
@OttoKerner - may be able to finger something out - but in the meantime go to: Settings/General and Activate Debug Logging, DE-ACTIVATE Verbose Logging then prepare for Downloading the log files via the button at: Settings/Troubleshooting - when requested to do so.
Have you de-activated the Landlard Hack and then Refreshed Metadata or Plex Danced an item to see what happens?
Also - De-Activate IPv6 in: Settings/Network (wild guess - seems I’ve heard that before - for some reason). You might want to restart the server after that one - and if something blows up, re-activate it.
Sorry for the delayed response, but I had already tried to disable IPv6 and tried it again with it enabled. I also tried making the router not use a VPN on the server connection as well as not using the router and just using an Ethernet cord from the wall. I also tried clearing the cache again and disabling the local media asset agent. On a side not I added more TV shows and the metadata on those loaded properly both on and off of the VPN.
Local Media Assets MUST be moved under ALL tabs for ALL agents under TV Shows and Movies.
AFTER you have moved Local Media Assets - NOT DISABLED - you must do every step of The Plex Dance, for at least one of misbehaving shows or movies (to see if it works - then all of them if it does work).
So after completely wiping my boot drive and restarting the server, I was able to get the metadata back, that is until I used Express VPN router to bypass the landlords modem for remote access and then everything I added after that did not get any metadata. Are there a preferred settings for using express VPN?
