Do you have a FIOS router or use a provider whose routers have a similar advanced firewall inbuilt?
Otherwise see if this can help: Plex install fix for Windows Server (Claim issue)

We have Xfinity, but I have no idea if they have an advanced firewall. And I’ve also got a Netgear router I use with ExpressVPN.
I’ll also check that link after work today.
Thanks.
AFAIR, this is one of those ISPs.
Don’t use Plex with a VPN. Exclude at least the server from the VPN.
Some good (and bad) news here.
I tried the fix you linked me to. Thanks for that. I created the .reg file like it said, but it wouldn’t run. I figured out that the first set of HKEY commands were deleting those entries. So I did that and added the others after that. That now lets us use Plex TV in the browser, listing all of my wife’s videos.
The bad news is that now Plex for Windows says my wife’s account isn’t authorized. It just opens the Home screen and spins and spins, just showing an empty window. “Not authorized. You do not have access to this server.” Now I’m stumped again.
Oh, and the server wasn’t behind the VPN.
The only explanation I can think of is that Plex for Windows is perhaps using another, different user account.
No. It’s the same one. All the time you’ve been helping me with this, I haven’t logged out of the account. When this new problem started, I did to see if that was all I had to do to get access on Plex for Woindows now, but logged back in with the same account. It’s the only one used on that server.
Could you please give some more details about the Plex for Windows app?
Which user account is logged in on it?
This is actually strange.
To check what you asked, I started Plex for Windows and saw my wife’s account logged in. Just to make sure I wasn’t seeing things, I logged her out and then back in again. Now everything’s working correctly in the browser app and Plex for Windows, on both computers.
Hmmm. Go figure.
Thank you so much for your help and patience, Otto. It has been greatly appreciated. If you hadn’t clued me in to that HKEY fix, I wouldn’t have gotten to this point.
