I’ve got Plex up and running on the desktop app on my main computer. Now I have a new laptop and can sign in using the server’s IP address, but I can’t pull up any of the videos I have in my library so I can sync up and watch them on the laptop, too.
I’ve tried allowing the DLNA and setting up a range of local IP addresses, but that didn’t work either.
What do I need to do to get this working on the laptop, too?
You only need to go to the server ip address the first time you set the server up on the server computer. If you want to watch things from other devices you go to app.plex.tv and sign in there https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/
If you’re going to use it to watch things I suggest you actually try Plex for Windows. It has a much better player
I tried the first link you gave and it didn’t work. I’ve also got Plex for Windows setup and that didn’t work either. I’ve actually already been trying both of those for a little while now. That’s why I started this topic.
I’m logged in, but I don’t see my videos listed. I’ve only got the default options on the left, and + Your Media.
No, I have not seen that. I’ll have to that one out tomorrow night.
Thanks for that. Hope it works.
Didn’t wait for tomorrow. I gave that a shot, but it didn’t matter. I still get the same result on the laptop.
And now I’ve got something else that’s curious. I don’t know how long this has been going on, since I only use Plex for Windows and not the browser app.
On that server computer, I’m signed in on Plex for Windows and all of my videos show up. If I sign in to the browswer app, none of my videos show up and if I click on + Your Media, it wants me to set up the server…which is already set up. (This is the same thing that is still happening on the laptop.)
I’m afraid to sign out of Plex for Windows in fear that my videos won’t show up.
So, I had to do a system restore on the laptop. When I got back up and running, in the browser I went to plex.tv and signed into my Plex account. When everything loaded on the screen, I still don’t see my videos listed. In the web app, I see the “+ Your Media”. In Plex for Windows, I see “Your Media”. If I click on either of those, it brings up a window asking me to “Get Plex Media Server”.
And I did do the “claiming” thing last night on the server computer.
I thought I did everything right this time. Why isn’t this working?
Check the properties of the network connection in Windows. The connection must be tagged as “private”. If it’s tagged “public” instead, the firewall will prevent access to your server from outside of the machine.
Plex server v1.32.5.7349-8f4248874
Plex web v4.108.0 (On server machine, no videos)
Plex Windows v1.74.1.3913-9baac009 (This is the only one that lists my videos, and it’s on the server machine)
Windows version on laptop is the same as on the server machine (No videos)
Web v4.111.1 (No videos)
I’m not exactly sure I know what you’re asking here. Sorry if I’m appearing stupid here.
The machine that the Plex server is on is also the same machine that Plex for Windows is working on, which is the one that is displaying my video list.
Any time I click on the server icon and select “Open Plex”, I get the web app with none of my videos listed and the web app wants me to set up the server.
