Can't connect to Plex Media Server on Seagate Personal Cloud NAS

Server Version#:1.23.3.4707-ebb5fe9f3
Player Version#:8.18.2.25850 (Plex for Android TV)

I’ve been running this setup for at least 5 years now - a Seagate Personal Cloud NAS drive with Plex Media Server installed, watching via my Vodafone TV media player box (which runs Android TV). It’s been working completely fine, other than occasionally when the player updates automatically on the Android TV device, and I have had to do things like re-find my Plex Media Server, or re-authorize it or something like that … but the last time that happened was years ago (hence not really remembering it well), and only twice in all these years. Also occasionally I can’t find my server from the Android TV device, so I restart the server via the Seagate NAS web app and that seems to fix things, but again … that’s at least 9 months ago.

So last night I had a little exclamation mark next to my server name when trying to navigate to it (via Android TV Plex app) to get to my downloaded stuff. It seems it couldn’t connect. I went to my desktop computer, opened the web app for my Seagate NAS, stopped the Plex Media Server (it said it was running) and started it again. Tried connecting to it through browser via http://[ip address]:32400/web/ - can’t connect. Tried uninstalling Plex Media Server and installing newer version listed above (I don’t update too regularly). Still can’t seem to connect to the Media Server despite it apparently running fine as usual.

Tried restarting router, switches, NAS drive, pretty much all the devices involved. Still can’t connect to Plex Media Server despite my NAS drive telling me it’s running fine. Oh … all devices are running over ethernet. I can navigate to the NAS via Windows Explorer and see all my files on it as usual.

I wouldn’t class myself as a networking expert, so if you hit me with questions about routing, DHCP or stuff like that, I may ask for help in getting you the answers.

Would love to get this resolved.

So I just installed the plex server on my Seagate drive and had the exact same issue you described. When I launched Plex app from the home page of the Seagate portal though it worked fine. Don’t do it through the All Apps screen as this did not seem to work.

Interesting. Opening it from here (the ‘Open’ option):

… or opening it from here (the Plex Media Server option):

… both result in a new tab opening to http://192.168.20.12:32400/web/ and both result in this:

Like I said - nothing has changed recently that I can think of to explain this. It just stopped working. I’ve been getting by using Kodi since this began, but it’s nowhere near as user friendly for other family member to use.

Does anyone else have any ideas? I apologise for getting the wrong tag when I set this up - could’ve sworn I didn’t see a ‘server-seagate’ option when I posted. In any case, thanks to whoever updated it for me.

Same deal for me. Working just fine a week ago. I thought I’d try uninstalling the media server from my personal cloud and reinstalling. Interestingly, after I uninstalled, I could no longer find the plex media server listed in the app manager for me to reinstall. Something definitely has been broken on seagate’s end.

On a related question…if I want to manually install the server, which file type do I need to use? I know that it needs to be .rbw but a little confused on whether it’s Linux or Seagate (arm or ?)

I normally go to this page: Media Server Downloads | Plex Media Server for Windows, Mac, Linux, FreeBSD and More

In the dropdown on the left, I choose Seagate, and then for my Seagate Personal Cloud I choose the ARMv7 package since that’s the processor it uses.

I get exact same thing, ever since Seagate changed their program.

Not sure if that’s why, but it says Plex is running in the app , but I can’t access it and doesn’t show up as server on plex.

Hope someone can figure it out and post the answer, thanks!

I have a synology NAS. A couple weeks ago the optic fibre on my street was cut and it only got fixed up yesterday.

Apart from that, there have been no changes on my home network. I could still watch stuff on the plex web app on my computer during this time.

However, after the internet connection was restored, I cant connect to the plex media server anymore. The web app doesn’t see the server at all.

Hmm … I’m pretty sure Seagate haven’t changed the firmware on my Personal Cloud NAS for a few years. In fact, I’m pretty sure they don’t even support it anymore.

Here is the current firmware on their site:

(from this page: Personal Cloud Hard Drive | Support Seagate US)

Here is the log from my device showing when that version was installed:

That was over 2 years ago. My problem only just started a few days ago. Nothing in my log around then indicates anything obvious to me.

ok, so thats not it,

well I get same error message as yourself, so just waiting for a solution, thanks

I have the same problem. Anyone figure it out? I’ve installed the Plex Media Server on my Personal Cloud, but can’t access it to log-in/set it up. I get the same error screen as beej75 does.

Well … seems like nobody’s fixing this anytime soon. Possibly related to the deprecation of Seagate Personal Cloud NAS drives, but as pointed out the firmware hasn’t updated in years so that makes it hard to believe it’s anything on Seagate’s end.

I managed to install Kodi on my android TV. Not as clean or easy to navigate for the rest of my family, but at least it seems to be working.
