Plex loses connection to Seagate Nas Server that it's installed on

Server Version#: Seagate Nas (Personal Cloud)
Plex Version#: 1.24.5.5173
Player Version#: ALL

Basically I can install plex on my Seagate Personal Cloud NAS, set the whole thing up, get all the images and metadata updated, and have no problem watching anything I have saved.

Unless I go about a month without watching anything from it, then the next time I load plex, it acts like it has no server list to draw from, or that it isn’t connected to any server despite showing the server in the authorized devices tab, or the fact that it is running on the very server it says it cant find.

The only solution at that moment is for me to completely uninstall plex from my personal Cloud NAS, and the do a fresh brand new install, and start everything over from scratch, meaning I have to reclaim the server, recreate my libraries, redownload all the metadata, images, as well as go back and fix anything that plex mistook for some other show, or movie, or just plain mislabeled, as well as reselect the images I want to use for specific things.

It is very, very, very, very, very annoying to say the least. It didn’t do this when i first got this device, and it didn’t do it ever in fact, that is up until last year, or maybe the year before. Now no matter what software version I install it always loses the server, or the files, or whatever, and I can’t possibly understand, or figure out why.

Not to mention I’ve tried to get logs from it to see if it would tell me what’s going on, I’ve followed instructions on the web, but they always say to go into the server, and find a certain folder named a certain thing where the logs will be, except my personal cloud NEVER has that folder anywhere for me to find any frickin log for plex to try to figure out why it keeps doing this. and the latest software update won’t even let me claim the server at all.

It’s like this program/app just keeps getting worse, and worse, and worse, and worse all the time. Not to mention that they have the balls to ask me to pay for certain features and other things, really?

As crappy as this program is, if it wasn’t free I would never use it, let alone ever pay for any part of it, when you pay for something you expect it to work, and this program hasn’t worked right for years now, so why would ANYONE pay ANYTHING for it, how can you even ask us to do that. The only reason I use this program/app at all is because I like the way it displays my media, and the fact that it downloads the images, and previews, and theme songs etc and shows them to me rather than just seeing a blank folder like i would by using DLNA alone.

So is there any way to fix this? or do i need to look for a super old version of this program/app online somewhere in order to get a working version of it that doesn’t disconnect all the frickin time, or that wont let me claim my own server that the very program is running on.

I am facing the exact same issue with all three of my seagate Personal cloud nas machines. I would like to find a fix as well. one thing i have found from extensive trials is there is no need to uninstall everything though.

If your machine is the same as mine there maybe a quick way to get it reconnected.

here’s what you need to do. this works on windows 11.

Navigate to my computer or this PC on windows 11, look at your drives. if your drive is connected you should see it with the white and black seagate logo.

click on it and it should open up the NAS home page. look at the top of that page and there should be alink… 9 liittle white boxes. click on that, if you have plex installed click on the plex logo and it will open up your plex in your browser. I use Mozilla and i can work from that.

this is not a fix for the obvious problem of it disconnecting all the time, but at least it will reconnect the drive to the server without deleteing the server and starting again.

still hopeful of a complete fix on this.

ps i am using plex version

1.25.1.5286-34f965be8

further to my previous post you may need to reconnect the remote access on the plex page as well. you can then go to the plex web page if you wish to work from that and it will be connected… for a while at least

I don’t have windows 11 on any device I own.

One has windows 10 the other has windows 7.

The device always shows it’s connected to my PC as it’s always on.

However when I go to the segate personal cloud home page there aren’t 9 little white box’s on the top of the page. All that is there from left to right is Seagate, segate Nas, English.

That’s all.

Right now I can load Plex on my PS5 and see all my TV shows, personal videos, movies etc. But if I go to my local IP address like http://localhostIP:32400/web or if I pull up the Plex app on my phone, it acts like it’s trying to connect to the server, but then it goes away as if it didn’t connect, and shows it as OFFLINE.

Which makes absolutely no sense why can I see everything on my PS5 but not on my local IP page, or in the Plex app for Android?

This is extremely frustrating, I even downgraded to an older version of Plex that I remember not having this issue with, and now I’m kinda still experiencing it. But I can access everything on one device, just none of the others.

I just tested it on my windows 7 desktop PC, and I can’t access any of my media there either.

So either there is a serious problem with Plex, or there is a serious problem with the Seagate personal cloud.

Unfortunately I don’t have the money to buy a new NAS right now, which I would love to do considering that I have two other 1TB drives, and I could take the 4TB out of the personal cloud and format it, so I’d have 6TB or space, and would also be able to get a server with a decent Intel processor that could actual handle transcoding instead of an Arm device like this that can’t do Jack for transcoding.
