So since last night my Plex has stopped working on both my tv’s in my house. They where working find during the day then I just get this message
“An error occurred while attempting to play this video. Please check your connection and try again”
I have check different videos and they all say the same. So it’s not just one file
But Plex is working fine on all laptops, smartphones and tablets we have.
I even stream it from the my cloud app and that works too.
I’ve restarted my hub and the cloud hub, restated tv and even uninstalled the Plex app from my tv and reinstalled it and still same message.
I’m now getting quite annoying and stumped what else to get and sort this out as not sure what else I can do. Or understand how or why this has happened.
You logs show a Fire TV Stick 4K - 1st Gen (2018) and a Fire TV Stick - 2nd Gen (2016-2019).
The only other devices I see in the logs are an iPhone and Safari browser.
There are other threads reporting similar issues with Android TV devices. However, it is not affecting all users. You might follow this thread, where others are reporting similar issues.
The release numbers for different devices do not align. 7.19 is the current version for iOS devices. 8.18.2.25850 is the current version in the Amazon app store.
Yeah, that version is around a year old. An update, if available, may not fix the problem, but there have been a lot of bug fixes and new features added since 1.18.6 was released.
Thanks for the reply. Just read the thread u suggest yeh looks like android decides are the issue. The issue r 2 fire sticks which are Android. Seen some work around so may try them then later to see if they work.
As for my Plex server outdated. Didn’t no it was. Usually it updates it’s self so may try force update to see it that does anything
Hola.
Thanks for the info but just figured out I can’t do that update the way it says.
I’ve just found this out on the WD forum:
“ Unlike a regular Plex Media Server you might run on a computer or NAS device, you can’t arbitrarily update the server version. Instead, new Plex Media Server updates will be delivered by Western Digital in the control panel of the My Cloud Home”.
So it sounds Like i can’t manually update it. I have to wait for them to send a update down and then I can, which is stupid. I can’t see any other round unless I by a new one. Which is silly. And it can takes ages for a update as read it took a year before they send one out.
I was not aware some of the WD models could not be manually updated. Apologies for sending you down a rat hole.
From reading the other threads, it seems there is an issue with security certificates and Android TV devices. A Plex employee on one of the threads is investigating.
I cannot replicate the problem. I’ve a Shield and FireStick 4K and two remote users with FireStick 4Ks and all are working fine.
In Settings → Network, I’ve Secure Connections = Required and Strict TLS configuration is checked (click Show Advanced to see TLS setting). The Android TV devices are set to allow fallback on local LAN (which won’t happen with secure = required).
You might see how your settings line up with my server. You should not have to reboot your server if you change the above settings.
Note that some users reported success with disabling secure connections on both the server & client and restarting the FireStick. So maybe just forcing a change in secure connections will get you up and running.
Thanks for the help but not your fault I didn’t no it either till I looked into it more when trying to do what u suggested first.
So when u say bout the settings bit I did the bit bout required connection but can’t find the info bout the tls connection in that part. Nothing to click. But will try the other bit to
See if that helps
