Can't Connect to WD MyCloud Home Media Server

Server Version#: 1.18.6.2350

I have Plex Media Service on a WD MyCloud Home. It usually works just fine, even as of yesterday. But today none of my devices can connect to the server (web app, desktop version, TV, and AppleTV). I know the network drive is running fine, as I can connect to it and view all of my files from my computers. I believe I have the secure connections setting configured correctly, but since I can’t connect anywhere, I can’t tell.

I know the Media Server can’t be forcibly updated, so are there any other suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

As of yesterday i cannot access any media via Plex on my MyCloud based server. Not one single file is viewable, listenable, anything… I’ve tried all fixes as suggested in forums and nothing has worked. As of now i have no Plex server at all. I disabled it on the drive to set it up from scratch, and the configure page doesn’t work - so i’m stuck with no server at all. So glad i decided against paying for a Plex pass.

Before digging any deeper, I recommend you upgrade your server. PMS 1.18.x was released 1-1.5 years ago. The latest public release is 1.22.3

Pardon my ignorance but how do i update the server version of Plex? I’d assumed disabling it in the Mycloud settings, and re-enabling would update it but i’m still on the old version it seems.
Worth pointing out it’s a Mycloud Home device.

I think the issue may be down to the Android Tv app i’m using to to view on my Sony TV. An update was pushed 18th May, which is when i started having issues.

My bad… there’s no option to manually trigger an update. That’s completely in the hands of WD and they seem to have missed quite a number of updates

I understand that’s an older version, but from everything I’ve seen from Plex’s support, I can’t force a WD MyCloud Home to update versions. Apparently that gets passed through between WD and Plex.

Unless you know of a work around. The configuration page on the WD side does nothing.

Fir point.
Do you get the same result when connecting directly to the server and it’s bundled web player (http://[WD MyCloud IP address]:32400/web)?

I haven’t tried that, but after rebooting my cloud drive itself, it seems to be working correctly for now. Although I have no idea why it was unavailable in the first place. This isn’t the first time have had this happen, and last time i think it was just a waiting game for it to reconnect. I’m going to contact WD about their lack of updates on the PMS side of things. Thanks for everyone’s help and feedback

I spent the entire day yesterday trying to load my personal movie collection from my WD MyCloud Home to watch using Plex on my Samsung smart TV app. The only way it will work for me is if I use my laptop as a conduit to the movies stored on the network drive. Please let me know how I can set Plex up to deliver the movies directly for playback on the TV without my laptop being the source. Thanks in advance!

How far did you get with setting PMS up on your WD MyCloud or where exactly are you getting stuck?

I started with adding Plex software from the WD MyCloud home website and having it configure. I then moved the movie files from the My Could Home media folder to the Plex folder under shared movies. It will show all of the thumbnails on Plex after scanning the library, but will not play them. Only the laptop setting plays them though Plex.

Do you get some error message when you try to play those files?
Does it happen with different/all files or only certain ones?

Are you using a Plex client app (e.g. Plex for Windows, Plex HTPC or the clients on Roku, iOS, Android, tvOS…) or just the web player – does that make a difference?
