Please fix WD My Cloud Home Server

Since late last year the WD My Cloud Home Server, just randomly disconnects. The end result makes it look as though my tv has turned off, but it’s still on. the only way I can reconnect is to restart the device.

It’s kinda bullshit that you guys don’t care.

Mind sharing some details on your setup and what actually happens?
Your post is a little light on those facts…

how about:

  • what version of Plex Media Server do you have installed on your My Cloud Home server?
  • what version of WD’s firmware do you have installed (e.g. OS3 vs. OS5)?
  • what Plex app / DLNA client are you using on your TV (platform and version)?
  • what do you mean by “it disconnects”? Is this related to some playback, the app not showing any content or something entirely different?

Here you go.

Please try to update your Plex Media Server.
Version 1.18.6.2350 is approx. 1 year old. The latest public version is 1.21.3.4046. WD’s application platform is sometimes a bit behind when it comes to distributing the latest versions… but they have pushed some updates during the last 12 months

I’d love to update. Can you please explain how to do that?

This is what I’m running. My Cloud Home | Western Digital Store

I can’t see a way for me to update it at all, and if it were obvious I would have done that months ago. To me it is more likely that Plex needs to force an update through WD.

I don’t have a My Cloud Home at hand… however I understood the updates are made available through WD in the My Cloud Home’s control panel.

From the support article on the WD My Cloud Home platform:

How do I update Plex Media Server versions?

Unlike a regular Plex Media Server you might run on a computer or NAS device, you can’t arbitrarily update the server version. Instead, new Plex Media Server updates will be delivered by Western Digital in the control panel of the My Cloud Home.

Yeah, I get that. It can’t be updated. But surely plex could actually send an update to the tards at WD?

Surely Plex are part of the problem here. One hand certainly doesn’t seem to be talking to the other.

What makes you sure of that?
I might be biased because I only get the Plex side through this forum – from what I’ve been reading, WD is provided with every public update, however they need to deploy it for their platform and publish the updates through their control center.
