Can't edit or create libraries, metadata agents unavailable

Alright, so…time to start over. I’ve done all I can think of, and the situation remains unchanged.

What do I need to nuke to get a clean slate?

New wrinkle: Plex isn’t fully preserving watch states on the problem server. It’s dropped watched status on multiple episodes of at least one series. No idea how many others are affected.

Verify that this is not only an issue with the “Continue Watching” hub in the Android home page.

More fun.

Now it’s not updating libraries when content is added, and it seems unable to delete libraries now (I’ve been deleting libraries to see what effect it has. Apparently the effect is to further mung the system.)

This blighted mess is making me want to switch to Emby again.

To elucidate, uninstall and nuking was followed by reinstall and Plex starting up only to stop and announce there was a problem with a core component of Plex and yadda ■■■■■■■ yadda logs yadda yadda forums yadda yadda.
I should have let it go, I guess, even crippled as it was. This crapsack software has kept me up all night trying to sort this ■■■■ out, and now I’m down a server.

Do you have this enabled in your Windows control panel?
Smart App Control 194055

I’m on Windows 10, not 11. I’ve no idea what the hell is wrong here, aside from Plex getting wore and worse.

I uninstalled and then installed 1.30.0.6486 and I’m getting the same thing.

I’m ready to ■■■■■■■ kill myself over this, I swear.

I’ve noticed that you seem to have 2 different Plex servers which are at the same local IP of 192.168.0.150. An IP collision can cause major malfunctions.

Or is that the same machine which you nuked and reinstalled?

Same machine. I did finally get Plex to come up – should have tried a restart right away, I guess – but now we’re back to the same old crap where I can’t proceed with libraries because the language dropdown doesn’t, well, drop down.

Have you tried to disable IPv6 support in Plex, then restart?

Is there a DNS-based internet filter in your router/at your ISP?

Just disabled IPv6, but I don’t see how that affects the library issue.

Delete the old entry for the server.

As far as I know there’s no such filter in place. Remember, there is a second server here, and it’s mostly just fine, no issues with editing just with it disappearing when media is added.

Did you check the health of your drive C: in general? Some SSDs come with software to test their health and performance. Your symptoms appear so weird that I am questioning the system’s general stability.

Just for confirmation: did you completely wipe out the Windows installation when you installed last time?
Or did you only remove the Plex server?

Drive appears to be healthy enough.

Removed the Plex server, registry entries, PMS folder in app data.

I’m not about to reinstall Windows right now given that I need to access other software.

Try this:

  1. uninstall regularly, using the Windows Apps control panel
  2. inspect the executable locations whether they have been completely emptied. Check both the x64 and the x86 program folder
    C:\Program Files\Plex\Plex Media Server
    and
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server
    respectively.
If these are not empty, clean them out manually.
  3. reboot
  4. install plex server again

Urgh, he urghed urghingly.

Well, I just made tea and figure I’ll sleep when I’m dead, so here goes nothing. I’ll let you know what results, if anything.

I’m highly tempted to figure out where I can stuff the small Dell box I have, but that still leaves me with problems due to folder locations (I use AudioBookshelf as well.)

I am frustrated and very very pissy about this.

I also ran an on-boot /chkdsk on C: and started System File Checker and let that run for a bit before I reinstalled Plex. I wasn’t hopeful, but apparently something did the trick.

so, now for the fun of rebuilding the libraries. sigh Not bad with movies, worse with TV, egad with documentaries and the railway/transportation library…but then we get to the music libraries and I might as well go on holiday for a week while those get ground through…

If you have your library databases you can restore those and avoid having to do all the rebuild
