Hi, this probably will sound incredibly daft, but I can’t find where to adjust my audio settings on Plex Media Player. I’m using it on MacOS and I noticed it is transcoding DTS-MA audio on one of my movies to AAC and this didn’t seem right to me because I thought Macs could at least access the DTS core? Or is it because I’m downmixing to stereo? I just want to get the best audio quality humanely possible when watching things on my computer. I thought I’d mess with the audio settings but I can’t find them xD
You’re in the “windowed desktop” mode there. If you go back to the home screen, there should be an icon to move to the full screen TV UI. You can change the audio settings in there.
I am a new (one day) user and am having the same problem with finding the Audio settings. I don’t see anything in the home screen that sends it to a “full screen.” I also found a HELP article that suggests I can access the home screen via the Users menu in the top right but my menu doesn’t show that option as you can see from this screen shot. Thanks for any assistance.
I am in the same situation. My screens look exactly like the two posted above. There is no AUDIO selection. What is the issue?
As Dave mentioned, in PMP the audio settings are only in the TV-view settings, so you need to switch to TV view and then access the settings menu (either click the home icon followed by the TV-with-arrows icon, or press F11 to get to TV mode). This tip also assumes that you’re running PMP and not the web app. The screenshot above shows a chrome-browser tool-tip in the lower left corner, so that doesn’t appear to be PMP.
I still have no option for audio even in the PMP app, has it been removed? What is TV view?
Do you absolutely need a Plex Pass to access this?
hi @nin_007,
you can configure your audio preferences (language for audio and subtitles) in your account settings – no plex pass needed.

The discussion above was focusing on audio settings in the Plex Media Player app. This app has 2 presentation modes – when in windowed mode, it’ll look like when you access your Plex server with a browser. When you switch the app into fullscreen mode, it’ll switch to a mode optimized for TVs (hence “TV view”).
Windowed mode
Fullscreen / TV mode
The TV mode has additional audio settings where it let’s you e.g. pick which audio device to use for playback (e.g. if you have the computer connected to an AV receiver through HDMI). In TV mode, you can access all settings by clicking on your account name in the top navigation bar.
I am trying to fix the popping sounds in Firefox 59.0.2 but I cant find the “Normalize Downmixed Volume” in the web player, as mentioned here: https://support.plex.tv/articles/212072167-audio-configuration-guide-plex-media-player/
Any suggestions?
I confirmed the popping does not exist when played/streamed with VLC.
This setting refers to the Plex Media Player (desktop Client) — not the Plex Web app.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will chalk it up to a bug in the web app.
I tried everything and still no luck, I don’t have the same screen you do. I even deleted the Plex app and re-installed to make sure I have the latest version…Thanks for the help!
@nin_007: what player is that exactly? that doesn’t look like Plex Media Player… (not even in windowed mode)
This is the Windows UWP app from the Microsoft app store.
It has nothing to do with PMP.
PMP is available for free from the download link above.
Thanks for the quick response, but could you post the download link, tried all the ones above and they only bring me to the server download link…?
Thanks!
on the left side you can pick the server, on the right side you can pick the client/player.

click “get an app”… Plex Media Player > Windows
should be pre-selected then.
Current direct download link: https://downloads.plex.tv/plexmediaplayer/2.7.0.806-608417d4/PlexMediaPlayer-2.7.0.806-608417d4-windows-x64.exe
Yes the normal Google download page version of the Plex media player is an older version which doesn’t have the TV mode icon when you install it and when you have finished installing it it says there no update. However the link above is the correct Plex media player 2.7.0 .806 which does update once you install it to give you the icon in the image I’ve included.
Thank you! Spent way too much time looking for audio settings. I’m a long time WMC and Emby user and spent the last few days evaluating Kodi. I decided I needed to look at Plex and while most of the setup went well, the unfindable audio settings had me swearing and ready to uninstall Plex. Luckily, I made one last sweep of Google and found this. Can I say that this is absolutely crazy? Anyway, I’m no longer as POed and plan to see if Plex can be my WMC replacement (or Emby or Kodi). Testing DVR will come next. Thanks again.
This is nuts. All settings should be available in windowed mode too. Prove me wrong?
I still can’t find audio settings I need to offset audio and I can’t it’s driving me mad somebody please help
