Can't for the life of me get Tom and Jerry added 4.22

Server Version#: 1.18.8.2527
Player Version#: 4.22.2

I have tried everything I’ve found about this series with no avail. I’ve done the Plex Dance multiple times, I completely disabled Local Media Assets, double checked the matching, file names, and structure. Nothing is working. Here’s my setup:

Tom and Jerry (1940)
│
├───Season 1940
│ Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1940E01 - Puss Gets the Boot [1939].avi
│ Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1940E02 - Midnight Snack [1941].avi
│ ....
│
├───Season 1950
│ Tom and Jerry (1950) - S1950E01 - Baby Butch [1953].avi
│ Tom and Jerry (1950) - S1950E02 - Barbecue Brawl [1956] (widescreen).avi
│ ....
│
├───Season 1960
│ Tom and Jerry (1960) - S1960E01 - Advance And Be Mechanized [1967].mkv
│ Tom and Jerry (1960) - S1960E02 - Ah, Sweet Mouse Story Of Life [1965].mkv
│ ....
│
└───Specials
Tom and Jerry - S00E02 - The Mansion Cat [1975].mkv

This results in this:

Instead of seeing the full 19XX/S19XX in the season folders and the episode names, it stops with just S19/E19. I’m at a complete loss so any help is appreciated. It’s possible I just overlooked something easy, my eyes are tired staring at plex for the passed few hours.

Use
Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1950E01 - Baby Butch [1953].avi

Not
Tom and Jerry (1950) - S1950E01 - Baby Butch [1953].avi

You keep the original date of the show in the episode name, not the year that the episode aired.

Edit: This naming convention worked for me. As @pshanew mentions, may need to remove bracketed date from the file name.

Tom and Jerry (1940)
  Season 1940
    Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1940E01.mkv
    Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1940E02.mkv
  Season 1950
    Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1950E01.mkv
    Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1950E02.mkv

Remove the year in square brackets from the file name. I tested here and it seems to be throwing off the matching logic. Also, use @FordGuy61’s suggestion as well.

Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1940E01 - Puss Gets the Boot.avi

Instead of:

Tom and Jerry (1940) - S1940E01 - Puss Gets the Boot [1939].avi

As far as I know, it should be ignoring everything inside the brackets, but it didn’t appear to do so in my test as it identified it as season 19, episode 1939.

Also, you probably want to have Local Media Assets enabled, just at a lower priority than the primary agent.

… and also as a technical point the year isn’t in the file name at TVDB:
https://thetvdb.com/series/tom-and-jerry

Tom and Jerry/
...Season 1940/
......Tom and Jerry - S1940E01 - Puss Gets the Boot.avi
......Tom and Jerry - S1940E02 - Midnight Snack.avi

Should do nicely.

But the year field won’t matter - as long as it’s (1940) and you don’t have 10 different ones in the file names.

(too bad about those avi files…lol)

Here’s where The Plex Dance comes in - 'cause after all that mess I recommend a complete bundle Re-Do - with all the right stuff in it this time:

  • /data4/media/tvarchive/Tom and Jerry (1940)/Season 1940/Tom and Jerry (1940) - s1940e01 - Puss Gets The Boot [x264 AC3 1.0].mkv
  • /data4/media/tvarchive/Tom and Jerry (1940)/Season 1950/Tom and Jerry (1940) - s1950e01 - Little Quacker [x264 AAC 1.0].mp4
  • /data4/media/tvarchive/Tom and Jerry (1940)/Season 1960/Tom and Jerry (1940) - s1960e01 - Switchin’ Kitten [x264 AAC 1.0].mp4

Having the same problem with my episodes of Forensic Files. I have 350+ loaded on my Synology DS718 but my Nvidia Shield running my Plex Media Server only sees two of the episodes. There’s no unique naming system or brackets.

This is the only TV series I have this problem with, the other 20+ display properly.

Yea that was a goof in my post. I had them correct in my filenames but typed them wrong here.

Well no luck. I completely removed the years in parenthesis from all episode names, as well as the parent folder. Removed it from Plex, emptied trash, cleaned bundle, and added it back in but still the same result. I have them named exactly as you have shown. Could it be something in the settings I missed? It’s like something is not allowing Plex to have S19XX.

Your file naming is wrong.

Explicitly follow Plex guidelines. It does not matter if you did the same for other shows. You’re doing it wrong. Rename and structure your files accordingly, then Plex Dance the entire show.
