Anyone know how to get a Plex server to engage. I have cheeked my firewall and have Plex allowed. Yet, I still can’t get a server and I’m sitting next to my modem. Second, how can I watch Plex as a stand alone on Roku without either having it on my IPhone or comptuter on?
- Is the server and your client connected to the same network. If you have an extender make sure you are connected to the main modem/router and not the extender.
- There is a Plex channel on the Roku Channel Store.
I have Roku with Plex.
The only server I have is ATT U-verse. I’ve downloaded the Windows platform. Still will not connect. I’ve tried different IP settings, but any others I get an error message of failure to connect 1001.
On my IPhone the IP 127.0.0.1 does connect with the TV periodically, but only gives me News and Podcasts. However, PLEX only operates as long as my phone remains on and the Plex app open. If my phone shuts down, Plex stops functioning on TV. So I’m at a loss.
Roku device is on its own IP address. When I try adding the Roku IP address, I get the same error message.
Again at a loss. I’ve even tried to add my regular U-verse address I get the same error message
I’m stuck.
You have to first download and install a Plex server. U-verse has nothing to do with Plex except to provide an internet connection.
Plex is a client/server system where the server gets setup locally to allow the clients to play media you own.
Thanks, but have already done that. Downloaded Windows platform. After installing it’s not connecting to the Plex server. It says it cannot find it. In settings I have entered an IP and port 32400. It just gives me error message. I have it installed on Roku, but it still can’t find the server.
I doubt you have downloaded the server. You probably installed the Plex app from the Windows store. You need a server and you need to set it up correctly. Download server
Once you download and install the server use your browser to go to Plex TV
There are good guides to setting up your server and media at Getting started
Thank you. I’ll try to sort it out. All the things you suggested I’ve done on my desktop. For some reason, a connection is not happening. I’ve even deleted the Windows platform and reinstalled it. In the other section I chose Roku as a device, and still no server.
I have checked my firewall and allowed Plex. Even turned off the firewall and tried to install it.
There is no server signed in to your user account.
If you indeed have already set up a server, it might use a different user account than all your other plex clients (including your web browser).
This procedure will change the user account of your server:
