Have completely lost my atv3 since trying to install plexconnect

Please Please someone help.

Brought an ATV3 for my other half thinking I could jailbreak it.  Realised not so trying to install plex connect.  However came up with this on terminal window:-

And to make the situation worse the ATV3 has completely gone blank now.  Have tried to reset and have lost all of the apps on it and it isn't recognised on my itunes now either.

Please Please help

It is not auto discovering you PMS, you can hard code the PMS Fallback IP in settings.cfg, see the advanced settings page on the wiki (linked in sticky) for details of how to do this.

I am on a mac and it says that I have no settings to open the application.  Will only let me open settings.py

Getting so confused.com

The IP Address and DNS on automatic are as follows:

192.168.014 (IP)

194.168.4.100 (DNS)

My Mac is:

192.168.0.8  IP

194.168.4.100 (DNS)

I have tried other versions of doing this where you change the settings.py file (different download) from 8.8.8.8 to the IP address but just keep getting the same

Please help me on this now for hours and very frustrated.

Thanks so much

Claire

Do not change settings.py, this has not been good practice for a long time.

Make sure that you have the rigt permissions on settings.cfg (CTR+i on the file and you will see them at the bottom on the window that opens).

You can then open and edit the file in textedit (either drag and drop onto the textedit icon or use the en file dialog in the application).

Change the following line to reflect the IP of the machine you are running the PlexConnect script on:

ip_pms=192.168.178.10

Edit: you may also have too turn off Internet sharing on your Mac if it is running.

Bear in mind this does not install anything on the ATV so switching its DNS back to automatic will bring everything back to how it was automatically.

Brought an ATV3 for my other half thinking I could jailbreak it.

claires-MacBook-Pro:~ claireowner$ cd /Users/claireowner/Downloads/PlexConnect-0-1.1-iOS-pre5.1
claires-MacBook-Pro:PlexConnect-0-1.1-iOS-pre5.1 claireowner$ sudo ./PlexConnect.py

What firmware is your ATV3 running? Because if you're using an ATV3 then you should really be using the latest version of PlexConnect, not the pre5.1 version.

It is a brand new ATV3.  I have tried the guys solution earlier of pressing ctrl i on the file but this just makes it jump back up the page - doesn't open a new file??? Very frustrated now

This guy thinks of COMMAND-i - which opens the file info.

Let's take a step back... what is your issue now?

Still this one from your first log?

>> 21:39:52 WebServer: Failed to connect to HTTP on 0.0.0.0 port 80: [Errno 48] Address already in use
Check out our wiki. It's a well known error...

LOL I feel like I am completely thick.

Yes still the same issue from my first log!!

I can't seem to get to be able to edit that .cfg although I was using ctr-i not command-i so I will try that.  I have downloaded the latest version although for some reason it doesn't should that .cfg file at all???

What am I doing so wrong lol - thank you

settings.cfg file is generated with the first run, not shipped in the package.

First run?????

Can you please talk me through how to do the whole thing in girlie english.  I am not a techno person at all so don't even get what the first run is.

I am so sorry feel like I am being a complete pain in the neck.

I have managed to change the DNS etc on the TV it just seems to be this last bit that is doing my poorly brain in

OK I have now managed to get to the settings.cfg and have managed to open with text edit.  However, text edit is saying that I don't own the file and don't have permission to change the settings - I think I shall cry

a - for the first easy install, there shouldn't be a need to edit Settings.cfg. Not sure, why some make it so complicated. Or I miss something.

b - file permissions. This is where you might want check the file info (CMD-i). SuperUser/Admin rights are needed/help a lot here.

c - still "WebServer: Failed to connect to HTTP on 0.0.0.0 port 80: [Errno 48] Address already in use" error? Again, Wiki, e.g.: https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Troubleshooting

your abc hasn't helped at all.

I have switched off anything that is sharing which btw was only my printer but it is still saying that this is in use :-(

this is the latest after a re-boot:-

Also on the TV in the trailers it says Plexconnect No plex media server in proximity

Do you have Plex Media Server installed and running?

>> your abc hasn't helped at all.

Well. You fixed the c.

:-D

No institute 11 what is that?

Plex is a server/client solution. Your aTV is one client, but you need "the other side" providing the media. See http://www.plexapp.com/getplex/index.php

Plexconnect is a client for Plex Media Server (PMS). You must download PMS from the Plex site and get it running for Plexconnect to do its thing. So install PMS, start it, then install Plexconnect, start it, put the IP of your computer running Plexconnect in the ATV DNs settings and then everything should work.
