Can't get episode names for TV Series - Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic

I’m having a horrid time getting Plex to pull the actual names of the two episodes for Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic; all Plex seems to want to do is name the episodes ‘Part 1’ and ‘Part 2’.

Relevant library defaults are:

  • Language: English (UK)
  • Scanner: Plex TV Series
  • Agent: Plex Series
  • Cert country: UK
  • Episode ordering: TheTVDB
  • Use original titles: unticked

Annoyingly, the series title displays as ‘The Colour of Magic’ rather than ‘Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic’. Only if I change the language from ‘English (UK)’ to ‘English’ does it pull the proper title (or if I tick ‘use original titles’).

But I just can’t figure out how to get the episode titles to be pulled. I’ve tried pointing the agent to both The Movie DB and The TV DB by adding {tmdb-5885} and {tvdb-81592} respectively to the folder names, unmatching and rematching, and refreshing metadata no avail.

Any suggestions? (I know I can manually correct, but I’d like to know what I’m doing wrong or report it if it’s a bug.)

Nb - I did correct the episode names on TMDB a short while ago (they had been listed there as ‘Part 1’ and ‘Part 2’), so perhaps the agent will eventually get the correct titles from TMDB. But that doesn’t explain why I’m not getting the correct titles from TVDB.

Looks like the episode titles where changes today, 25th Jan → The Colour of Magic: Miniseries - The Colour of Magic (2008) - (S1E1) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB) and The Colour of Magic: Miniseries - The Light Fantastic (2008) - (S1E2) - Changes — The Movie Database (TMDB) so it’ll take between 24-72 hours for the changes to creep their way into plex.

As FYI… plex uses a consolidated metadata approach now. Changing tmdb to tvdb only changes the episode ordering if the episodes are different between the online sources. The metadata itself stays the same. Plex no longer can be configured to pull metadata from one specific source.

Any idea on the series name itself only showing the full original name if I change language from English (UK) to English (or tick ‘use original title’)?

TMDB shows the title as ‘The Colour of Magic’ and the UK title as ‘Terry Pratchett’s The Colour of Magic’, so I’m confused why Plex uses the shorter name when the language on Plex is set to ‘English (UK)’, but the longer name when it’s set to just ‘English’.

I’ve seen this happen with various titles. I’ve come to think of it this way. Plex pulls metadata from imdb, tmdb and tvdb they score/rate the metadata between each site. I’d bet if you checked imdb you will see the title listed as you see it in plex for those languages. If that is the case then plex has scored the imdb data higher than tmdb UK title and they then use that :frowning:

It’s a pain and I created a feature request [Feature Request] Ability to specify Metadata from a single source (IMDB, TMDB or TVDB) to give us an option to pull data from a single source but its been ignored.

So, for titles that I see plex getting wrong I just manually fix them up myself by editing them.

BTW… here is a perfect example. Look https://watch.plex.tv/en-GB/movie/song-of-the-sea and the UK title of “Song of the Sea”. Plex actually pulls the Irish title from imdb.
