Can't get Plex running, even after total uninstall

Server Version#: v.1.41.0.8992-8463ad060
Player Version#: v.1.101.0.223-94fa57b7
<If providing server logs please do NOT turn on verbose logging, only debug logging should be enabled>

Happy Plex user for several years (Apple ecosystem), had to shut down my Qnap and when I turned it back on, it lost connection to server and I never managed to get it working again. After following every topic in existence (doing uninstalls, endless reboots, even creating new Plex users, etc, etc) I decided to follow instructions on Plex website for a complete uninstall (server, app, etc). Again, no luck!

Using Plex on my home LAN (no need for remote connections or anything fancy), with QNAP NAS.

It just logins with my user but only shows generic Plex content. When I click on “+ your media” it doesn’t begin the process of adding the libraries, it just goes to a page with a link to download Plex server, which I already have running. There’s no option or menu in settings or the “wrench” where I can even choose the server. It’s like PMS exists but is invisible to the client apps.

MOD EDIT: IP address scrambled

If I try this link https://xxx.10.1.10:32400/web/index.html#!/client-setup it just shows a circling loading symbol that doesn’t go anywhere. I normally just use the web version but if I open the plex app and go to settings, the Qnap TS-251D server appears on the menu as “offline”.

To finalize I’ve just tried Emby and it installed ok and is running all my music and music libraries, no issues, so no problem there.

I would like to get back to Plex, so any help is greatly appreciated.

@dane22 heard good things about you on Reddit maybe you can help me?

See: Qnap faq.....read me first! Q22

Thanks for the link @dane22 the point which seems relevant to my problem ( (Re-)Claiming a QNAP based Plex Media Server) I’ve already tried, but it seems to do nothing in the terminal, here’s what I get:

I’ve stopped the server on QNAP before doing this, what am I missing?

Anyone?

Sorry, but was away on a mini vacation

So did you change IP address, so you are using Private Address Space?

no worries and thanks @dane22 was just crying for general help

My IP is in the 192. range, and fixed so the problem shouldn’t be there?

Your original post indicated otherwise

And 192 is not enough, has to be in 192.168.xxx.yyy and workstation as well as QNAP both have to be on the same IP-Net

That original IP was just a fake one to illustrate, sorry about the confusion. It is in that range, and Qnap also.

If I try this link (you can see the IP adress) it just shows a circling loading icon that stays that way:

If I login, I just see Plex generic content as described. If I click on Plex app on the Qnap, again it just redirects me to the same logged page:

What happens if you use http://192.168.x.y:32400/web

Also note in above, that it’s http and not https

If I use that link (with http, not https) it goes to my logged in Plex page as well, with Plex general content as posted above, no difference.

When you browse to http://:32400/identity, does it in the xml show claimed=0

currently it’s claimed (status=1) but I already did this step multiple times of unclaiming/claiming to no avail. Always back to the same Plex status.

Try this: GitHub - ChuckPa/UserCredentialReset: User Credential Reset utility for Plex

That’s too hardcore for me unfortunately, I think I have to give up, very strange this happens out of the blue. Is there any other way to “reset” this? Seems like the client stopped seeing the QNAP Plex server.

Well, from our audit log, you did delete a lot of devices, including your server on 2024-09-16, so it’s no longer attached to your account

Another thing you could do is follow the QNAP FAQ Q28

Than should give you access to the Preferences.xml file via QNAP File station

Then follow this: https://support.plex.tv/articles/204281528-why-am-i-locked-out-of-server-settings-and-how-do-i-get-in/

Yes, but that was not the cause, I deleted the devices at a later stage following several proposed solutions, it did not cause the problem.

I also tried to create a new user account but it still gives me the same error, I suspect it’s some kind of cache or persistent file that’s causing the issue.

I tried to follow your last article suggestion but my terminal doesn’t exwefute those commands.

Follow the FAQ, and after that, restart PMS and use the File station
