Reinstalling plex server on QNAP

Server Version#:1.24.5
I accidently removed the plex server from my qnap. After reinstalling the server neither the old server comes up nor does it advertise an unclaimed server. I have read all over the forums and it seems the only solution is to reset the qnap back to factory defaults. Is there no way to fix this issue?

You don’t need to reset the QNAP. That’s NOT cool. Let me write up instructions.

Stand by.

@buddycat

I just looked at your account.

Please confirm you already deleted the server?

There is no record I can see for any servers on the account associated with this email.
(Asking because if I know the account email – which we can exchange in PM if you wish — I can help cleanup at Plex.tv)

I removed the posts for future privacy.

There are no active servers under any of those addresses.

Under “Angry” , there is a server reference – not seen in 7 months.

Have you tried opening PMS using :

  1. Open an incognito window
  2. In it, open http://LAN.IP.of.QNAP:32400/web
  3. If you and it are on the same subnet, it’ll start setting up
  4. At minimum, the plex/web app should load

I get the web app but then it does not show any servers. That is why people are rebuilding their QNAPS. The old server is gone and no new is server advertised.

That is why I followed some directions on making a plexdata folder, restarting the service so that you could delete the preferences.xml folder. No matter what I try no new server is offered up for adoption.

This is currently happening on two of my QNAPs and I have had it in the past. Previously have rebuilt the QNAPS to fix the issue. In this case it is a bit harder due to the amount of data on the file shares.

@buddycat

There won’t be a new server offered in MORE> if it still thinks one is there and the new one isn’t signed into (associated with) your Plex.tv account.

(Plex/web is NOT TOO BRIGHT there because it floats. It’s not bound to the server you load it from)

  1. Open https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/devices/pms

  2. Now find the QNAP server you just deleted (the one for which there is no more corresponding Preferences.xml), and REMOVE it.

  3. Browser - Control + F5 (to force reload the list of known servers)

  4. With PMS now running on the QNAP and ready to be claimed (which is the problem here),

  5. Open an incognito window

  6. Open http://ip.addr.of.qnap:32400/web
(This only works if you and it are on the same subnet)

  7. It should be sitting there with the “Got It”, sign in, and then the setup wizard.

If you aren’t on the same subnet with it, or you’re not using RFC-1918 LAN addressing, Please let me know as there’s another way to claim it and make it show up again.

Its already gone. I did this when I was following the other post. Part of delete the .xml, fix.

ok…

Back to basics -( Please forgive )

  1. LAN IP of your computer being used to setup the QNAP

  2. LAN IP of the QNAP

  3. Are you using the “PlexData” shared folder ?

  4. If so, when you open FileStation → PlexData → PlexMediaServer

  5. Do you see files there or is it blank?

  6. If you see files, and see a Preferences.xml,

  • right click it and ‘Open with Text Editor’
  • See if your email address / account information is in it.

Sorry, it was the local domain that caused it. I do not have access to computers in the same location as the QNAP but I did find a browser tool that you can run on the system. Anyway, that fixed the issue. Thanks so much for your help!!
