Can't get .plexmatch to work for NCIS

Server Version#: 1.27.2.5929

I am currently ripping Season 6 of NCIS to my server. It is in the NCIS\Season 06 folder on my TV Shows library drive. I added a .plexmatch file that looks like this:

Title: NCIS
Season: 6
Year: 2008
tmdid: 4614

Every. Single. Time. that I add a new episode, the entire season transforms into NCIS: Los Angeles!

The filenames are all in the format NCIS - S06E01 - Title found here.mp4 and the file’s internal metadata also includes the series name, title, episode, etc.

Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong here? It is VERY frustrating.

That should be tmdbid; your example shows tmdid.

Title and Year will be ignored if the ID is picked up correctly. But for the future, Year should be the year of the show, not the individual season.

(NCIS matches correctly for me without any .plexmatch - I’d be curious to investigate why yours needs it.)

After posting I removed the .plexmatch file and tried again with no problems.

I didn’t add the .plexmatch file because NCIS “needed” it, I added it to test a feature (apparently not well implemented) in the program I use to tag all of the files with metadata. I will report the bugs and get it corrected, but I will also disable the option to generate the files until needed (I thought it might speed up the matching and any associated tasks.)

What’s that?

It is called MetaX. It seems to work for me. (smile) You can find it at MetaX The author corrected the mistakes within hours of my bug report, too!

(PS: If you use Handbrake to encode anything for your system, be sure to apply the metadata after Handbrake is finished because Handbrake has started to strip all the metadata out of my output files and I’ve no idea why or if it will be fixed.)

This show’s title was originally not “NCIS”, which is why Plex has mismatched it.

The only thing you need to resolve this issue is to rename the folder to Navy CIS.
Alternatively NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
Then Plex Dance.
No .plexmatch necessary.

OP said they don’t actually need a .plexmatch, they just wanted to see if their .plexmatch generator was working.

OP: don’t use .plexmatch if you don’t need it.

NCIS appears to be the primary English title, and is working well for me.

The preview of the TMDB link you gave even shows NCIS to me! Possibly because it detects I’m using English or in the US? Does it show Navy CIS for you?

So I was curious where it is called Navy CIS - in several countries:

NCIS (TV Series 2003- ) - Alternative Titles — The Movie Database (TMDB)

In regards to Handbrake and your metadata make sure you didn’t accidently uncheck this box. It’s on the summary page after you load a video.

The default may have also changed from checked to unchecked in an update. Don’t know if that’s your issue but it’s something to check.

@OttoKerner I was just trying the ability to create a .plexmatch file out in my metadata tagging program and found that, with the title NCIS, but the season year instead of the year the show debuted, Plex matched it with a different NCIS spinoff series. It works perfect without a .plexmatch file – I was just experimenting and found a bug in the metadata tagger with help from the fine people here.

@JaysPlex THANKS! I managed to miss that setting despite all my searching, and it was unchecked for me. I don’t recall unchecking it and wonder if an update may have done that for me. Oh well, it is fixed now, thanks to you!
