Can't initial setup Plex after update to Ubuntu server 22.04

After install Ubuntu 22.04 and installing plex again, signing in with my account ( I recently added 2-factor ) I can’t add any media at all. How do I initialize initial setup to discover media again?

I am running Ubuntu Server 22.04 and my web page only states this:

I have nowhere to add my media at all.

Please help me out.

Claim the server.

Are you and the server machine on the same RFC-1918-compliant subnet ?

Claim the server? I did that - I think.

I am not on the same subnet no.

The server is on another vlan at my home - server network.

This was never a problem before.

If on a different VLAN then check your tagging and subnet ID. Something got missed.

You must be on the same RFC-1918 compliant network and not using a FQDN to claim the server. (use simple http://lan.ip.of.server:32400/web).

https://app.plex.tv won’t work because it only knows about claimed servers

Hehe - no I got the vlan tagging right - else I wouldnt get the web page up as I already have the tcp connection going :slight_smile:

I just need to run the initial setup again somehow. I can’t claim the server.

  1. sign out of Plex/web in your browser
  2. Close and reopen the browser (it caches info across tabs)
  3. Open an incognito window
  4. Open the server by LAN IP only

If you’re RFC-1918 compliant, you’ll sign in, see the ‘Got It’ and the setup wizard will run.

When you get to the dashboard - Settings - Server - General and you can claim it.

If it fails, make a tar.gz of the Logs directory (under /var/lib/plexmediaserver) and upload

Is there any .conf file I can “reset” to make it run on my server?

I am running Ubuntu 22.04, and also some months ago I added MFA to my account aswell.

From your logs, the server is running.

Here you can see some of the media which is being scanned meaning it was setup at some point.

Looking at Plex.tv, the only recent server I see is a Proliant.
That server was last seen by Plex.tv (signed in) almost 2 months ago.
LAN IP 172.16.0.15
Ubuntu 20.04.5 LTS

This suggests the server was signed out of your account some time ago.

Given the machine is on a different subnet, you’ll need to SSH tunnel to it and reclaim through the loopback adapter. (127.0.0.1:32400)
