Can't play media on Android/Firestick/Nvidia devices

Server Version#: DSM 7.0-41890
Player Version#:

Just installed PMS on a DS220+. This is my first experience with PMS.

All seems to work well with the exception of playing any media (music, video) on any Android based platform:

Does not work on:

Moto G Power
Firestick
Nvidia Shield

Works:

Roku
Windows 10
iPad

I have found several other threads with a similar issue but none of them ever seem to have a definite fix.

Things I have tried:

Installing/uninstalling Plex
Factory reset on the NAS
Turning on/off secure network on the Android app

My NAS is behind an ethernet switch. Eliminated that with same result.

I have attached the latest logs. Plex Media Server Logs_2021-09-30_10-19-34.zip (770.5 KB)

I access another server as well as my own. Not sure if that is relevant.

You can’t fix it, cause it’s an error from Plex main servers.

So, this is unique to this NAS/PMS combination?

I am able to stream all content from a friends server using the Android app just fine.

The 1.21.0.3744 beta version in the Synology Package Center is out of date.

Download the current version of Plex Media Center from plex.tv (Synology DSM 7, Intel 64-bit) and perform a manual installation (Package Center → Manual Install).

Read the support article linked below.

There have been packaging changes since the initial rollout of PMS on DSM 7.

The primary change is the addition of the /plexmediaserver shared folder. This is where Plex stores its internal information (database, etc). DO NOT put any of your media files in that folder. It is reserved for Plex internal use only.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I actually tried that. Probably outside of the context of this forum but, the NAS just hangs as soon as I try to install it manually. I guess I can try another factory reset and install the updated version first.

Is it possible the installation can take hours? I can see that the volume is being intermittently written but the CPU is barely being utilized.

I did a factory reset and the first (and only) package I installed was the manual PMS.

Still going . . . . .

Ok, thanks.

This is actually a clean install. I have not even gotten past the first ‘Next’.

So, 24hrs later and nothing has changed. My NAS simply will not install that .spk. It just says it is processing and . . . .

Major bummer.

If I may jump in?

I just helped a user where the PMS “upload” process hung in Package Center.

It never even got to the Third Party message Synology displays.

If that’s what’s happening here.

  1. Reboot it
  2. Open an Incognito window to it – away from any proxy / other software on the computer. (this was the root problem)
  3. Now Manual Install. (should only take a few seconds until the red Syno 3rd party warning.

Yup. That fixed my manual package install.

And, the manual install fixed my Android/Firestick issue.

Thank you for the quick responses and resolution.
