Can't scan sci-fi shows "V" from 1983

Plex is hosted on Windows Server 2019 Essentials

I have sci-fi series “V” 2009. Plex has detected it, no problem
But I also have the original series from 1983/1984.

They won’t be detected/scanned.

The files are on drive F;
F:\TV shows\V(1983)\V(1983){tvdb-76354}part1.mkv (and part 2,3,4,5)

But Plex reports: “TV Shows V” is empty.
When i make library “V(1983)” it scans 2 totally different movies.

What am I doing wrong ?

That’s not how you add a tv show to plex.

It still could’t find it as you suggested.

This is what I’ve done:

/TV Shows/V (1983) /season 01/ V(1983) s01e01{tvdb-76354} part1.mkv

I had to add the : {tvdb-76354} otherwise it kept scanning the wrong series of V (the one from 2009)

But it works !!

Don’t make any of the reserved words for multi-part videos the last thing in a file name, unless you actually want to add the file as a multi-part video (which you mostly don’t want). In this case use Roman numerals to avoid them from getting recognized as multi-part.
(“Multi-part” has nothing to do with a tv show consisting of several episodes. It’s a little bit confusing.)

Add the ID number to the folder name, not the episode name.

/TV Shows
   /V (1983) {tvdb-76354}
      /season 01
         V (1983) - s01e01 - Part I.mkv
         V (1983) - s01e02 - Part II.mkv

Here’s how I got them all in:

This should follow the Plex naming rules up to the Source tag I put on the end of files of [BLU] or [DVD]. Putting those tags in square brackets should hide the tags from the Plex file scanner.

This order is based upon the TVDB order which puts the two mini-series into the Specials Season 0 for the 1984 TV Show. Hope this helps!

Good luck!

Chris

Aha! Then you should not use the ID {tvdb-76354}
Because that would be wrong.
Only TMDB has listed it as a separate item. So if you want to retain this as a separate show in your library, you rather use the ID of TMDB which is {tmdb-14141}

And TMDB has the second mini-series The Final Battle separate as well. I believe that I chose this method so I could start watching the original mini-series and Plex would proceed to the 1984 Series and then the Final Battle all in the correct order. I suppose it’s nice that you can organize it either way based on what you want. I had most of these on DVD before Collections were a thing in Plex.

Now if I could only get the Original TV Series in blu-ray…

Have a good day!

Chris
