Scanner not finding miniseries

Server Version#: 1.27.2.5929

I’m migrating my movies from one NAS to another. The Plex scanner detects the files in the new location and matches most of them. The miniseries that I used to keep in my “Movies” library aren’t being matched with the Plex scanner and agent, though they used to with the older scanner. I read that I should put these files in my TV Shows library instead so I’ve done that, scanned both the movie and TV libraries, emptied trash, scanned again, but the miniseries doesn’t appear at all in my TV Show library. It’s not even coming up mismatched, it just doesn’t exist at all. I’m naming the files with the standard format of show name followed by year in parentheses. Is there a log file I should check to find out what the Plex scanner is (or isn’t) doing?

How exactly did you name those files?
Most likely there’s some glitch in your names – e.g. if Plex cannot determine what season/episode a video in a tv-show library belongs to, it’ll not add it to the library to start with.

One example is the Jackie Robinson miniseries. Since I originally stored this in my Movies library I saved it as a single file rather than individual episodes. In my TV Shows library I created a folder:

Jackie Robinson (2016)

and in that folder I have the file:

Jackie Robinson (2016) - HD.mkv

Should I have this organized differently?

Thank you for your help!

If you’re referring to this series, try naming them using the sXXeYY format. Something like:

Your Series Folder/ <--- Name not important, this is the folder added to your library
     Jackie Robinson (2016)/
          Jackie Robinson (2016) - S01E01.mkv
          Jackie Robinson (2016) - S01E02.mkv

Or, if you have a single file:

Your Series Folder/ <--- Name not important, this is the folder added to your library
     Jackie Robinson (2016)/
          Jackie Robinson (2016) - S01E01-E02.mkv

Adding the range of episode numbers to the single file did the trick. Plex was now able to find the file and correctly matched it. Thank you!

You’re welcome, glad you got it working.
