I have added the folder to my external hdd but to no avail, I havent had any of the media populating in the library for plex. I have set this up three times now with the same problem. im using a tutorial on

That tutorial is garbage. You will find any info you need in our official guide here in the forum.

Ignore the “change user to pi” part you have read about in the other tutorial and read the “Mounting USB Drives” section.

ive started this tutorial with a fresh install of the OS and i seem to be unable to finish the fourth # on the arm v8 instructions.

Do you have a Raspberry Pi 2/3? Then your distribution is armhf and the “ARMv7” section is the correct one for you.
