I have updated to most recent version of plex client on sony bravia tv running android and the whole gui has changed and now i cant seem to navigate through my content stored on my windows 10 server by “folder view”. I have hundreds of shows and dont want to/cant scroll through hundreds of shows in “all content” or “recently added” for the show i want to watch.
Enter your library by pressing OK on one of the library names at the left side of the screen
Now go right,
to the top onto ‘Library’
now go downwards onto ‘TV Shows’ (or ‘Movies’, depending on which type of library it is)
press OK/Enter and switch to ‘Folders’
Thanks you folks.
Yup i found that i could actually click on the word “movies” and it then gave me options to change to folder view.
It wasn’t too intuitive that the word movies was actually an icon or that activated a dropdown box and i suppose it could do with a down arrow or something to indicate it has option attached to it but admittedly i am not the smartest tool in the shed either.
Either way i am back to 99.99999% happy with Plex.
Thank you for your help.
Do you have any suggestions for what to do when selecting “Movies” on the left of screen, then “Library” or “Collections” on the right-top of screen finds no results? I am also using a Sony TV, previously able to access folders without trouble (before the UI “upgrade”). I can still access movies through “Recommendations”, but that is limited by the nature of the recommendations (I don’t have much use for grouping movies because they featured a particular actor, for example).
Thanks for any suggestions you have. At present, I have reverted to using my DLNA video streaming app that came with the TV.
Yes. That was exactly my issue too. You’re very close.
Click “movies” at the left side bar first then along the top it says “recommendations, library and collections.” Click “library” then go DOWN to the header that says “movies” and click it. The word “movies” is actually a drop down box and the other option you will then be able select is “folder”
Viola
Like you i have so need for the other views and it took me ages to work out how to get folder view. Its not very obvious i’m afraid.
Hopefully this pic will help. Let me know.
Thanks for trying to help. Unfortunately, I don’t get anything at all under “Library” when I am accessing Plex via the TV. I can navigate by folders using a web browser, but since the UI update I can’t access any folders via the TV.
Damn. Is it connected to your server? Can you send a pic of one screen back from where you are in this one? So that the side bar shows on the left side?
It looks like the problem was a mismatch between the auto-updated Plex client on my TV and the out-of-date Plex media server on my Synology NAS. That lead to a delightful canter through the world of “how to manually update Plex on a Synology NAS”, which is a more painful experience than it needs to be. I understand that the lack of auto-update for Plex on Synology NAS has been a longstanding cause for complaint.
It’s working now and I can see the folders using the approach initially suggested above. Hopefully it will be a good long time before the next update breaks everything again.
I was scratching my head after the latest update. Could not figure out how to do Folder View.
After reading this I could not do it on my Android box with the Mouse enabled. Once I switched off the mouse however, this was easy.
