Sonos told me my music collection was way too big to stream from my QNAP NAS, and that I needed to use Plex. So I got Plex. It’s streaming fine to Sonos as long as I’m playing MP3 files, but ALAC files won’t work. When I try to play an ALAC file, I get a warning on Sonos saying “Unable to play (song title) - the file is in an unsupported format”.
Chat GPT says that ALAC files need to be transcoded in order to play on my Sonos system, and transcoding requires a Plex Pass subscription.
But Plex support staff say that I shouldn’t need the Plex Pass in order to stream ALAC files, and that I should post here to figure out what’s going on. Would be kind of nice if they could just tell me what I need to do… but anyways, here I am.
Can anyone give me some tips?
Thanks!
Peter
