Hey all:
I originally had my Hauppauge WinTV-DualHD plugged into my Nvidia Shield and there were just way too many problems and it wasn’t reliable. So, I setup another Plex Media Server on one of my desktops to give it a shot. So far it seems better to tune in channels, but I still have a problem tuning in Fox. On the Nvidia Shield, Fox would rarely tune in and when it did, it wouldn’t last very long.
On my desktop PMS, I thought it was working better because I got Fox to tune in over the web. However, it seems after I tune another channel and then try to go back to Fox, it never works until I reboot the computer. I can switch between all the other channels without a restart, but as soon as I do Fox once, it won’t work again until a reboot… and even then sometimes it seems it won’t tune.
Lately the message I get is “Unable to tune channel (no parts)”
I’ll try to attach the logs… never attached anything in this forum before.
Thanks,
Doug
I just recently went back to the web and tried another channel and it showed the message about having to stop watching a channel… except it was the same channel listed about 5 times. So it looks like this is somehow related to it not letting go of the tuner.
I selected to stop watching the show that was listed 5 times and now I can tune channels fine again except for Fox.
I don’t know if this has anything to do with it, but I’m having much better luck now…
First, I had my Hauppauge WinTV-DualHD plugged into my Nvidia Shield and running the Plex Media Server on it. I ended up moving the tuner to a desktop and setting up the Plex Media Server there. After this, things seemed better, but I still had issues with Fox tuning in. It would work after a restart, but then when I went to different channel and tried to go back, it wouldn’t work.
I read somewhere something about the Chrome browser causing issues with certain types of channels. I didn’t understand it, but essentially someone mentioned to use a different browser. So, I restarted the server again, stayed away from Chrome and used Firefox. Channels seemed to tune fine including Fox. Last night my wife and I were happily changing channels on both our Nvidia Shield and Roku Express… no problems at all. Things are still working this morning too.
So… basically the only 2 changes I made were…
- Moved the PMS off the Shield and onto a desktop.
- Stayed away from using Chrome to tune in channels over web.

Thanks for the insight. I think you might have solved my issue. Fox has been the main culprit with this issue for me and I use Chrome as the browser it’s playing from. Once I get the error I can’t get the channel back until I restart the media server.

bscherz2… Curious if that resolved it for you. I’ve still been having better luck and haven’t touched Plex using Chrome.
Thanks,
Doug
I rebuilt my box and move from OpenATV (6) to OpenVIX (latest stable build) and all was well again.
